h23 knocking

hey guys and girls...i need some help doing some diagnosing so i have an idea when i take my 92 lude to the mechanic, so he dont run me throught the cleaners.....anyway, i have a real hard knock coming from my motor and i thought i had spun a bearing, but when i drained my oil there was no metal shavings, and i had the valves checked and that wasent the problem. but its still knocking and it sounds like its coming from the side of the motor tith the belts, could the harmonic balancer make alot of noise if damaged? or the belt tensioner? the car runs but it only has about 2/3 of its normal power. if any one can help it would be verry apriciated. thanx

i had the same thing happen with my h22. Turned out in my case to be the clutch.

Sounded like rod knock, pulled the pan, no free play on the rods, and no visible metal shavings. Pulled the trans, and voila....my problem was there. A few pieces of the disc were laying in there, and a finger from the pressure plate was beat up real good
