H23 High Idle NO surging

Hi folks. Just bought me a '92 H23A1, and I am in the process of getting this sucker going. I have a high (1200 - 1400 RPM) idle after warm. It DOES NOT SURGE. I have relearned the idle a few times with no results. Quick overview of what I've done:

-Timing belt, idlers, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, clearance adj, Short Ram Intake.

I recieved the car in less than idea condition. I fought some vacuum leaks only to find that the original throttle body is gone and has been replaced with a B16/B18 60mm TB. This has no FITV (just coolant lines to warm up the body) and the stupid throttle dashpot that has been removed.

I can disconnect the IACV, which it then will idle at whatever the idle bypass screw is set at. If I place my finger over the top port (bottom seems to go nowhere) and the car will die. This makes me confident that there are no vac leaks.

I have a CEL 9 after another used dizzy (grr...) Will this cause a high idle when I have a CEL?

Why does the ECU want to keep such a high idle?

Try changing out your throttle body. I have an extra, but no TPS.

I have a 98 Prelude (H22) and had this same issue over the past couple of weeks. I was driving on the freeway at around 100-120kms/hr and whenever I'd take my foot off the gas, the car wouldn't slow down, it would keep accelerating - as if my gas pedal was stuck in position.

I ended up just downshifting, getting off the freeway and coming to a stop, but everytime my car was in Neutral or my clutch was in, my car would rev up at around 4000RPM - I was tripping out! Ended up turning off the car and WD-40'd the sh!t out of the throttle spring by the Fuel Injector.

The next day when I was at a traffic light, my car would be revving between 800-1200rpm - the needle would just jump up and down.

Went to a garage later and they said its probably the throttle body thats clogged up - Ended up cleaning it all out and now my car is running and revving perfectly fine!

So in regards to you, its probably the throttle body that needs changing or cleaning - good luck man!

Wow. Received a used TB and installed. This took care of the idle. It gets better. I was also cursed with the dreaded 2-3K RPM hesitation. It was getting to the point where it was like someone shut the ign off. This cured me!!!

I now have a smooth and low idle. RPM's drop quickly to idle as soon as the clutch is in. Tons of new bottom end that I haven't experienced before. No more hesitation. The TPS must have been bad on the other TB.

Thank you so much for the suggestion!

no problem, I just require $75 for a minimum 1 hour worth of work for my "professional mechanic's" recommendation.

jk - glad it worked
