H23 Distributor on a H22?

Still havnt figured out my h22 ecu problems so i'm still running on the h23 ecu. But I've checked ALL the wiring and got the vtec sillinoid and oil pressure switch checked and everthing seems fine.......So the mechanic that did the swap for me suggested something about trying the old h23 distributor on the h22 and he thinks that should solve it. Heres the thread explaining the problems i've had.....http://preludeonline.com/showthread....threadid=95832

I sold my old distributor so unless you guys think that couldnt be right, i'm gonna get another h23 distributor......i'm so pissed that i cant figure this out though......if this doesnt work i guess i'll spend a bunch of money to have honda diagnose the problem.

Thanks
Jonathan

Re: H23 Distributor on a H22?

Well.... you might check with Honda first. The H23 distributor is 300 at least. I caught a deal on mine and got it for that price.

Is your H22 a USDM motor or JDM motor (if it's JDM and the distributer wasn't modified, it would run really whacky, maybe not at all)? The H23 distributer should work on the H22, I believe they are the same. If they ARE they same (I know they both have the same bolt pattern), I can't see how it would be causing a problem with the ECU.

Someone on Ebay sells cheaper distribs. all the time

Its a jdm motor......its not really causing a problem with the ecu .....it just doesnt run right at all with the h22 ecu in ...and i've tried 3 dif. ecu's.......So since its a h22 jdm motor with the jdm h22 distributor its not going to work right?? that would be awesome if all i had to do was get the h23 distributor!!
thanks
Jonathan

Are you using the distributer that came on the motor, or your old one? the JDM dist. has an INTERNAL coil, so it needs to be rewired to work correctly with the USDM wiring (US cars have EXTERNAL coils). Do you know if he rewired the distributer at all? You have to change some internal wiring if you use the JDM dist. I don't know why this wouldnt be an issue when using the H23 ECU though.

Yeah i'm using the distributor that came with the jdm motor and i dont think he rewired it.......so the h23 distributor would have the correct wiring to work with the usdm wiring wouldnt it?

Thanks
Jonathan

The H23 dist. or USDM H22 dist will both work without modifications. The JDM H22 dist needs to have some minor wiring done to make it compatable with the USDM wiring harness. I can tell you what you need to do, it took me like an hour. I still don't know why that would have anything to do with the ECU though. . .

usdm h23/22 share the same dist. jdm h22's can use the same one, but you have to rewire it.
