h22a swap update....

I know that no one cares, but if you do...

I finished the swap. The car cranked and seemed to run fine. CEL (prob bc of o2 sensor or tps) and it idled around 2,000rpm. Time to get a working tps.

btw, this was with the h23 ecu. I haven't swapped computers yet

Nice... you're going to love it once you get a p13 in there and it runs right.

Its like my Prelude is a whole other car since I did the swap.

Did you have an H23 before or an F22?

You can modify an H23 downpipe to fit on there until you get the H22 one. Its not an exact fit, but good enough to drive

what do I modify it with? I've heard of "slotting" the bolts, but isn't that hardened steel?

yes, I had a h23a1 in this car

Just need cut slots in the flange like this:

You'll have a bit of an exhaust leak, but at least it will be driveable until you get the correct downpipe.

it's dirty...partially because I was in a hurry to get it in and touched everything with my dirty oily hands. if I could only swap over my IAT. I may just end up swapping the whole IM over..

The blue is the 3M blue painter's tape - I had certain things labeled on the wiring harness. I am proud of my work so far, I just need to get vtec wired up, the ecu swapped, a few sensors swapped/replaced, and the exhaust.

good news is, it started on the first try even with a CEL

so far, no leaks or anything - just gotta finish it and make sure it's reliable. then off to auto-x and barber's we go!

the toughest decision....what color for the valve cover....black or red...

okay, i finally got the crank pulley torqued to "spec" and then the clutch bled. I took it around the block. the thing was loud as hell (waiting on h22 header to get here), but drove better than I expected. the h22a even idled "just right" considering I dont have an IAT or TPS plugged in. just gotta get the darn IAT out of there so i can put another in. the screws are on dang tight....any suggestions?

for what it's worth....

got everything else on there. got the throttle body on there. the only thing im lacking now is a working IAT which will be a PAIN to get out. i'll see if the shop can get it out for me - the screws are on uber tight. I drove it for about 30 miles tonight. at about 70 im sitting at 3k rpm even with an open header the thing had a good bit of low end power....cant wait to get vtec working

I'm thinking about swapping in an h22 also, did you have to use the shift linkage for the h22 transmission or are you able to use the shift linkage from the h23?

I used the wiring harness and shift linkage from the h23 as well as the crank pulley, ps, alt, and a/c. the a/c works!!! I didn't follow step by step instructions either it would have been easier if I followed them!

list:

a/c
ps
alt
crank pulley/bolt
shift linkage
distributor
ignition coil
manual tensioner
fuel rail (i used jdm h22 injectors and jdm h22 fuel pressure regulator)

I am happy with it so far. The exhaust is getting welded shut today and hopefully it will get painted sometime in the next weeks......

and as soon as I get the IAT replaced and hook up the vtec wires, the fun begins....but it would have been more fun open header

okay. I declare the swap complete. I have driven it several times, vtec'ed more than enough, and taken it up to 100mph. Once the VTEC starts in 1st, i just want to keep on going 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 oh crap I'm going too fast. It is surprisingly quick considering it's a stock intake a some "stock" muffler with a tiny outlet. No CEL's after I fixed the IAT and o2 sensor.
