h22a or h22a1?

i have a 95 S and i am going to be doing an engine swap over the winter. My original plan was to get a h22a and build up the head and then drop it in, in spring. Now i was thinking i should get a h22a1 and then the money i save from getting the usdm engine i can build up the bottom end. Get it bored, sleaved, and get pistons and rods. And then build up the head on the h22a1 also. So should i get the h22a and build up the head or get the h22a1 and rebuild the whole engine?

Have you checked prices on motors? Generally, a JDM H22a will be cheaper than a USDM H22a1.

The h22a will be a lot cheaper. I think it usally cost about a grand more to get a USDM h22.

Also, the H22A wont have the USDM smog equipment on it... which is a performance bonus.

Well if you get an H22A1 only the 96 will have that junk...

Well if you're going to build it, then just get an H22A1, are you going to boost?

The only potential gain with a JDM H22a is with the optional LSD tranny if you can get it...

Aftermarket LSDs are better anyway...go for H22A1 then. The only real benefit of the JDM is the 10.6 to 1 pistons, but you're sleeving so you're going to get high comp forged pistons anyway
