Whats happenin guys, i came across a broken down 95 prelude today in pretty decent shape. original h22a1, its a 95 by the way. the guy is telling me the timing belt broke, he replaced the timing belt along with the water pump and other stuff but now the car has no power. He is telling me he "thinks" it bent some valves but i thought h22's were non-interference engines?
do a compression test, this will tell you if your valves are bent. Find out what the compression numbers are. Should be around 185 on all 4 cylinders. Make sure who ever does the compression test knows what they are doing. If you do it wrong you will get wrong numbers.

I really dont care if the valves are bent, i just plan on swapping in a jdm h22. But i thought h22's were non-inteference engines, why would the valves be bent? unless its not.
Honda engines are interference engines and the only time they don't bend valves from a timing belt failure is if you are like at a near idle RPM and even then you are VERY lucky. Judging by what your saying about the lack of power, it should be noisy too, the valves more than likely crashed into the pistons.

All Honda engines are interference? I rebuilt a b21a1 from a 91 prelude that was non-inteference
^ Never heard of that about that motor, more than likely false or just the fact that the piston to valve clearance was great because of the low compression dome. All honda engines to my knowledge past the 70's were interference motors, if the B21a1 belt snapped and didn't bend any valves then you got VERY lucky, seen it only happen once on a B20 from a CRV.

B and D series are non interference motors, all H series are interference. I found this gem of information the hard way. I shattered my timing belt and bent 9 valves.
^Totally wrong, B and D engines are too, have seen it personally. All Honda engines are this way, you don't take care of it and let the timing belt break then you deserve bent valves.

^Totally untrue again, the only time they don't bend valves is if the engine is at idle and even then you still got lucky cause it can bend them then too. If you are above idle then forget about it, you will bend valves. DOHC actually has a greater chance of getting lucky and not bending a valve where SOHC always bends them when the belt breaks.
Change your timing belts.

i dont know what ur talkin about not all honda engines are interferance i have my h22 and i snapped 2 belts and the motor is in great shape it seams to me the guy who changed the belt proboly didnt get the timing right
