I called my mechanic today and told him i want to get an H22 and LSD tranny swap.. I told him i could get the tranny and engine for about $2500 shipped. He told me that he could put it in and replace all the seals on the top end and valve adjustment, timing belt, water pump. etc etc for $1300 does this about right?
The shop I am talking to is a small one, and they would do an H23 AT -> H22 AT(LSD) for $800 labor.
If I wanted to do a full conversion to manual, labor was to be 1200. Lots of work in that though, pedals, hydraulics, etc...
I started looking into just getting a whole VTEC car, 4th or 5th gen, and I just can't find one that looks as good as the car I have. So Im probably going to do the swap. $3250 total.
Nice shop, when I went in to talk to them, they were working on a Honda S2000. It had 100 miles on it, and they were putting a huge supercharger on it, that was supposed to put nearly 400hp to the wheels!! The driver, SEVENTY TWO years old. OMG
i agree.. do it your self. take your time & label everything. its not really that hard. all you are doing is disconnecting everything, and pulling the old out and putting new in, connecting everything back up. sounds simple enough. if i can do it, anyone can...
I wish I coulda done mine myself. I just didnt have a garage or tools to do it at the time. Plus I didn't know enough so I didnt wanna screw anything up. I'm happy with mine though Still running strong and no problems yet :crosses fingers:
Make sure you find a reputable shop!!! I had a local place install mine and they did a horrible job. It still dosent run. Now i have to get it towed somewhere else and have them fix what the other place screwed up.
The labor of a reputable shop is always a nice, warm fuzzy, but plenty of people here have done it either themselves, for free, or w/ the help of friends on PO who have done it for & with them for little more than the cost of booze & pizza. It's really up to you, but there are probably a few people around you who'd help you do it for MUCH cheaper than a shop, and it's more of a learning experience. When my engine explodes, I'm going to recruit the help of some of my SoCal Luder-homies, and will make sure I hook them up for their help

Anybody want to buy my Lude? (Will sell in either stock or fairly modded trim).
If it was just a swap and go procedure like cifer says it is, then why are there so many threads on here like, "I swapped an h22 in. Vtec doesn't work, HELP" or something to that effect?

There is just something about pulling the whole engine, and Tranny that worries me, but so does $1300.. hmm Guess I will start searching on H22 Swaps. Anyone in the Austin Texas Area wanna lend a helping hand in a few months? haha.. Let me know@!
It seems like a tough job, but once you do it once you realize its not as hard. Just go slow and try not to break too many bolts and you will get it done in no time.

Before doing my swap, I had never done more than install an intake and change oil and adjusted valves.
I spent the money I would have spent on labor on a full set of hand tools and an air compressor setup w/ a nice IR impact wrench, air ratchet, air hammer, and an aluminum race jack.
I now know every thing about my car, inside and out; I am doing spare work as a side job, and have the tools and knowledge to do any work I may need.
I wouldn't have given it up for the world....
