H22 swap.... Guages?

I'm getting a H22 swap in my 92 prelude... do I *NEED* a new guage cluster, or can I just use the stock si guages? I don't see why there would be a problem but I just want to make sure

Some people modify there stock Si gauges to how a vtec redline. I remember SubEx has this done.

If you are up for changing the gauges you can get them pretty cheap on ebay. There are numerous threads about changing the gauge faces. I have so many pics if you need them.

Welcome to PO.

Hope you enjoy it.

Hey,

I will be doing an H22 swap this summer and I thought of this too. I had a spare Si cluster so I took it apart and pulled the overlay out. I have EL in mine so what I did was scrape the old redline back to the new one. I then scraped it black back to around 5200 rpm (about where VTEC engages). I now have a band of clear plastic in the entire VTEC range. I am planning on getting some good blue transparent paint or gel and filling this clear part in. I will take some pics when I do the swap. It should look pretty sweet when done.

when i drag race at the track, my tach needle bottoms out on the Si tach..so it technically reads around 8500..of course the stock tach is inaccurate, and when the needle is racing towards 8k in first gear it keeps going..lol...but i got my new vtec EL cluster coming very soon..peace

your best bet is get a v-afc to deteremine the true rpms. when i'm at 8k on my tach i'm really at 7,400. so marking a 7,400 spot on my tach would be useless. it's not like you need to hit redline every time you need power. i only do it when i need to since this car has so much power and i know to take it to 8k.

Another BBGM lude... if its not a VTEC, it must be a 4WS

You may not have known, or even have thought about it, but the 4WS will still work after you swap in the h22. You don't need a JDM 4ws ecu either. Just an FYI.

Ahh ok, cool, yeah I didn't even think about that. But I'm getting the whole kit, motor/tranny/ecu because my tranny needs to be rebuilt anyways so I just went along and got the h22 tranny instead.

Thats what I did. The h22 tranny has better gearing anyway.
