h22 swap?

i have a 1992 Honda Prelude with an H23A1 in it. the timing belt snapped on the last owner and bent all sixteen valves. It hasent been running for like 5 years now. Ive been looking into buying a JDM engine online. My question is would it be a better idea to buy an H22A1 and an H22 ECU, or to just buy another H23 to replace it? I dont know what to do.

Are you wanting to make the car quick or just DD/resell it?

H22, faster, easy to find, great aftermarket support. higher demand for resale.

if you were local....I would give you a good deal on mine

the h22a doesn't cost that much

it's much easier if you get the complete changeover. you can just get the longblock and ECU and just reuse the h23 trans.....

vtec is cool, but it's not "all that" - I still like it

I think the vtec in my F20C is cooler than the H22A - it sounds more "mad"

vtec itself is pretty neat in how it works and it works pretty well.

get the h22. Belive me, ive been there.
The keyway inside the crank ground off and caused me to jump time on my h23. So I decided it would be easier to just pull the head and change them. Well after 16 valves (180$), valve stem seals (50$) Head gasket set(125$),oil change (25$), labor on the head (150$) and I had the head hot tanked (im pretty sure it was 50-60 bucks??)

Thats around 580 dollars. and I was expecting it to be considerably less. Your also supposed to use new head bolts which I slacked off and didnt. And Its gonna be alot more if you cant work on a car and have someone else do it. So you can get a jdm H22 off of ebay for like 900 and maybe 200 shipping. maybe even cheaper cause I havent looked in a while.

btw, i am aware that the h22 has 190hp and the h23 has 160hp. this is more of a saving money and time kind of issue.

i am almost completely set on the h22 though. if i do this swap i need to know if anyone could tell me exactly what needs to be replaced for the swap and possibly prices too. i dont want to get into any ECU programming though. i was told that the the h23s come with shorter gears in the tranny. is that going to be a problem? if anyone could post links to a guide or something, i would totally appreciate it.

Do a search man, this has been covered many many times..

I think I even did a journal of my h22 swap .. For timing belt etc set aside another 300 at least.
