H22 running very badly...

Hi all,

Have dropped my rebuilt H22 into my lude this weekend and its not running too well.

The car idles quite nicely but when accelerating it sounds like its pinking and basically has sod all power, once the revs get up vtec engages and the car seems to clear its lungs and fly!

I have had a play with the dizzy and advanced and retarted the timing. I'm pretty sure this is a timing issue (be it, cam or ignition) and nothing else.

The car sometimes stalls when coming to a stop sometimes as well.

Do you guys think that this is:

A) I've timed the cambelt up incorrectly and either the intake or exhaust cam are too far advanced... or
B) Its just my ignition timing thats out?

I imagine it could be the first but I was careful when setting everything at TDC - I guess it is possible that something wasn't straight.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Dave

Ah the fun of getting a motor up & running. There seems to always be a few bugs. Anyways, definitely double check the cams to make sure they are lined up correctly, get the timing light out and time it at the standard setting. Don't forget about fueling maybe an injector is causing problems or the fuel pressure is off. Could be the TPS or MAP sensor. So many possibilities, let us know what other symptoms it's presenting & when.

Now you say this is a "rebuilt" motor. Has it been rebuilt to OEM specs or is this a firebreather under the hood? In either case what are you tuning it with?

Thanks matey

Basically the crank on my old engine had munched itself:

So that was replaced, new bearings have been fitted as well as the kaisenspeed balance shaft elimination kit and h23 manual tensioner, so nothing too crazy, just a few improvements.

As for engine management its a standard JDM P13 ECU chipped with the spoon program.

I'm taking the car to a garage tomorrow as I don't have a timing light and tbh with work its hard to check cams and crank timing. I'd hope at a garage it'd only take them 1-2 hours max.

I'm just hoping I won't do too much damage driving her there, at most the whole lot can only be 1-2 teeth out, I'm not sure if that would be enough to cause this grief?

Oil and temperature lights seem to be acting normally as well.

I was considering the fuel rail as this one was recently hydrolocked - I did clean them and dry them out though.

Thanks again!
