H22 motor w/ H23 tranny

Hey Guys,
This might have been posted before, but I searched the site and couldnt come up with anything. Anyways, I was looking to do the h22 swap in my 93 Si Non-Vtec and wanted to know if the H22 longblock will fit on the H23 tranny. The longblocks are like $1000 less than the whole swap so I would like to use my old tranny. Also, if this has been discussed before could somebody post the link. Thanks

Correction: will have problems with vtec.. Wont engage.. Make sure you get the ECU.. The tranny will work, but its not best suited.. depends on how fast you wanna go...

I have this setup. The trans bolts up to the VTEC perfectly. As for the gearing issue, I do notice it but it is not worth the extra $1000 to stay in VTEC for the 1-2 shift. That is the only time I fall out of VTEC, on the rest of the shifts I am in pure VTEC. I actually like that better as the longer gearing allows you more time between shifts and longer pulling time in VTEC.

Now that is not to say I wouldn't jump on a decently priced VTEC trans (especially with LSD) in a second though.

Just keep in mind there will be other things you will need if you get the longblock, particularly the P13 ECU with will set you back about $250-$300.

yea im running the h23 tranny also. If you can hold your shift out to 8k you can stay in vtec.

just a question for those with the H23a trans...

What clutch did you use-- H22a or H23a?
Also with the longer gears of the H23 trans wouldnt it yield a higher top speed

I have the H22 with the H23 tranny and I can stay in Vtec from 1 to 2, besides, 1st gear is the same in both trannies. Just have to run your rpms up till you about hit the cutoff before you shift.

irish, the clutch for an H22, H23, and F22 are all the exact same applications. Since all the trannies bolt up to eachother, the clutch and flywheels of them can all be interchanged as well. When you purchase a clutch, there shouldn't ever be an option for S, Si or Vtec... makes no sense.

If your worried about it, all you have to do is get the vafc, which I did, I dropped out of vtec for a split second, bought a vafc and got it tuned, and dropped the vtec a little a there ya go. Mine runs awesome.

by the way I have a act hdr6 clutch. A little over kill for daily driving but I have nitrous also so I wanted it.
