h22 longblock question

I'm thinking about finally saving up for the h22 swap. since my h23 is still in good shape, i think i might go for the longblock and use my old tranny. from what i understand, i'd need the longblock and a usdm vtec ecu, right? is there anything else i'd need for the swap?

also, the best price i've seen online is 1150 for the longblock at www.nippon-motors.com, but does anyone know of a place selling them in the md/va/dc area? i'd rather be able to pick it up and see it before i buy, and also save on shipping.

yup, all you will need now is an ECU and someone to help you drop it in. My friend just bought a h22 longblock and dropped it into his Prelude Si. we picked up a USDM p13 from a local junkyard for $128. took about 2 days for the actual swap, working on it at night and another day to get VTEC working (had to re-pin the wiring harness and do some wiring).

goodluck!

i know the shortblock is just the head and head internals, but what all is included in the longblock? is that the whole engine or just the primary parts of it?

you mean to tell me i can buy an H22 for only 1100 bucks! damn, i might just have to go ahead and slap one on there, does anybody have any idea how much on average one would pay to have the 3rd gear synchro replaced if they were already putting in a new engine for me since the tranny would already be out? I'm just trying to figure if i should go ahead and save to get the H22 and tranny together for 2400. My H23 has a small crack in the block and my tranny grinds 3rd, so I'm just looking for some input on what course of action to take.

Go for the H22 block AND tranny. The H22's tranny have shorter gears, which helps with accleration. And since your old tranny is messed up already, now's a good time as any to swap everything out.

the h22 tranny compared to the h23 tranny is not worth around 1000 bucks more.

Sure it is when you throw in a rebuild for the H23 tranny.

My 3rd is fried rice, i looked into it, hear its a waste of money to rebuild the tranny, just get jdm tranny when you buy the motor, plus for the 2300 instead of 1600, you usually get the ecu, drive shafts, and every thing else you would possible need.

Can't they just replace the 3rd gear synchro instead of rebuilding the whole tranny? I thought it might cost less for them to do it while the engine and tranny were already out of the car. If i were to just swap the H22 onto my H23 tranny, would i need different axles or anthing other than the ECU? i really want the whole package, but with the LSD tranny and everything it will be 2700 plus shipping coming to over 3000 plus labor, I'm just trying to explore options here. Lets keep this thread going, it seems to be raising questions with a few people.

I also bought a long block from hondamotorsonline. Everything went really good. I kept the old tranny from the F22A becuase I intend to go turbo. The longer tranny is good for f/i cars becuase it lets you stay in boost longer from what I here. Anyway, I love it! I top out in 4th at 115mph! I am to chicken to go any faster, so I don't know how fast she will get up to in 5th. I also bought a JDM ECU from Steve for like 250.00. He seems pretty cool to me!
