As we all know, all the 4 gen. Si ludes dont come with the slamming H22a VTEC. They come with the H23. I have found out that you will pay more for the VTEC ludes, obviously. Since I am limited on money at the time for a VTEC lude, I wont be able to buy a VTEC lude straight up. I can although get my hands on a cheap Si 4th Gen. lude AND a really good H22 VTEC engine. How hard is it and what are the little details and info that anybody can give me in order to swap the H22 into the Si and take that crappy H23 out. Dont get me wrong, H23's aren't that bad, its just in how much power you want and what you will do with it. So I would prefer the H22 Vtec than the non-Vtec H23. If anyone can help or if there is a write up or anything on this, please let me know. I appreciate all of your time and thanks again.

my mechanic only took like 2 days doing the actual install, if you want to make it as painless as possbile, get a COMPLETE swap, as in engine, tranny*,ecu, header, downpipe, and also make sure you a vtec cat**, and exhaust system**, cuz the vtec downpipe will NOT bolt-on to the cat as I have jus found out. Will either have to go custom or get a stock/aftermarket vtec cat and exhuast system.
The faq has two how-to guides, one from S to h22a and from Si to h22a. Both are very helpful.
*you could use the h23 tranny, just wont be as fast but better for daily driving (low end) I would opt for a vtec tranny.
** could modify if you really wanted to.... but im sure its a pita
hey thanks alot, i know the H23 isn't crappy, its just what you said....not as powerful. Is this swap something i could do on my own. I have done swaps before but on old muscle cars. I know the imports are way different. Should I just have a Mechanic do it for me. How much would that run about. Hey, thanks again guys and girls for that matter. later

you could do it on your own, and the writeup that red92s did is awesome. REALLY helpful, so make sure you have that handy it covers pretty much everything. good luck!

the other write up is mine...i dont see the need for a vtec exhaust or cat, mine bolted up just fine, get a greddy header with your swap and your good to go..lol..anyways, its a very easy swap, especially if your car is pre wred for vtec..peace

p.s. The h23a is NOT crappy, its just not as fast...
anyways, I love both engines
now the sohc "S" engine is crappy
about how much did your mechanic charge for all this work and what did you do with you old engine, did they take it out at the shop and discount you or something? in the future I might throw an h22a into my Si and would like to know the cost for the work and what I would do with my old engine since I have no garage or anything like that.
