H22 or H23 - Which is better do you think?

I'm thinking about buying a Non VTEC / DOHC / 1992 prelude with a H23 swapped engine.

I have a few questions before i enter this path -

a) In comparison, how much better is the H22 than the H23?
b) How much HP is with a stock H23 1992 prelude with NO work done to it?
c) He is selling it for 2700, body is mint condition, but it claims it overheats, he says he did BLOCK tests, COMPRESSION tests, refilled his antifreeze, etc..
brought it to a shop, ran it for 1hour and they said it didn't over heat. IS the car in your opinion worth 2700?

Thank's alot guys and girls !

You can build a h23 better IMO. H22 is 200hp stock with 160 trq. H23 are 160 and 160. Overall, I think powerwise, go with h23. IMO. So basically its up to you. If you like V-TAAAAKK then get a h22, if you like boost, get a h23!

If it overheats, it might be a thermostat or something.. or low on coolant. (burn or leak?) ie headgasket.

if you're gonna be building it, I'd look for a less expensive prelude, or go with an alternative car.. maybe a vtec civic or accord.
I got my prelude vtec with a blown motor for 800, then 1600 on headwork to get it running again, all in all 2400, and I'm sure you could talk the guy down to at least that, if not less..
do your homework.

I like my H23A1 alot.. (wish i had a H23 ).. I heard honda rated the H23A1 at 160hp at the flywheel. However im not sure what the HP will be on THAT car in THAT condition, Only way to be 100% sure would be to dyno it. Ive seen a all stock 92 with like 200k miles on it like 133whp. Age and wear can effect your HP, Well ima stop rambling.

They are both good engines the H23A1 is a good engine WITHOUT vtec and the H22 is a good engine with vtec. I agree with 32206 h23 love BOOST and they are torque monsters.. The h22 just starts with more HP lol.. but i may be a lil' biast.. since i have a 93 si h23a1 haha.

I bought mine for 2000 in july tho.. Only the back break calliper stuck a lil bit because of it sitting up that was fixed with no problem.
However ive seen ludes overheat for a number of reasons.. Weirdest was the radiator was clogged the lil shaft thing that runs from top 2 bottom well only like 1 or 2 of them was open rest CLOGGED He coulda had it RODDED or whatever where they clean it out.. But for the cost of that its worth 2 buy another radiator. It could also be timing lil off. Thermostat. Low Coolant, Water pump dying.. i mean it could be ALOT, more details on how it overheats or when would be helpfull. I would also try 2 get the price knocked down a little the car is 16 years old but depends on what he has in it and miles..
