H22 Engine Swapout with a small difference

Hi all,

I've sold my 5G so back to the 4G for me I'm hopefully swapping my F20 this weekend with a H22, at the very least I'll be picking up my engine.

Is it worth me getting the tranny as well? Are the ratios going to be that different between the H22 and F20?

Thanks

Dave

ds,

Nice... going back to the darkside eh. Correct me if I am wrong but isn't that the same tranny in the Accord type R??? I thought I read somewhere that the gear ratios were like the same as or better in the accord type r. I am not totally positive but I believe someone one the boards has the type r tranny matched up the h22. I am looking into this myself let us know how it goes.

Wait. . .you have an F20 and you want to install an H22? Why? The F20 has just as much power but slightly les torque. . .I don't think spending all the money justifies the difference.

He probably has a F20A not a F20B. F20A is more like the F22A we have here I believe.

ds2000,
Can you specify which f20 a or b that you have. If it is anything close the f22 tranny then just get yourself a vtec tranny and be done with it.

I didn't ever notice it was a UK car. The only F20 engine I know about is the F20B, the 2.0 L DOHC VTEC found in the high-end JDM Accord. If there is another F20 engine, I've never seen or read anything about it.

This is what I thought when I first read it. I think the accord type r tranny is a better tranny for one reason or another. I unno need to ask U.K.VTEC I think he was doing something with this same situation????

red92s: in UK they have a Lude with a F20A it's a 2.0L SOHC engine pretty much like the F22A here I guess except with a shorter stroke.

OK as I stated before just get yourself the vtec tranny. I bet the f20 tranny will bolt up to it if your going for the economical route and get the tranny later kinda thing. I would do it all at once though.

The F20A tranny is going to be horribly bad....do not run it with an H22a....H23/F22B DOHC trannies are ok, but the F20A is terrible, the Final Drive is like 4.062...

Also your brakes will not be very good, VTEC rotors and calipers are much bigger on the front brakes.

Thanks again guys, the brakes are awful now, they stop the car well below 80mph but anything over that and they die pretty badly so they'll be getting an overhaul as well.

Thanks Satan, there seems to be some real confusion over this, some UK peeps are saying it'll be ok, others are saying it'll be awful, a good friend whos an engineer says it'll be fine and get me to speed quicker but I'll loose top end

I think I'll just go the extra hog and get the tranny as well, if I can find a JDM one with an LSD all the better really!

no the longer gears will accelerate slower and be overall slower acceleration wise, but would have faster top end, shorter gears keep you in the sweet spot of your powerband thus accelerating faster, but top speed is reduced..peace
