Guy with worst luck in the world

so I got a 93 prelude to save on gas, got the title and tag on 6/18/08... well I was on my way to work today 6/23/08 at about 5:20 am a guy in a 2000 firebird pulled out infront of me... you can guess the rest.... so as of right now I am waiting to hear from the insurance adjuster... its going to go one of two ways.... I know according to them that the car is totaled... not worried about that. Im hoping I can keep the car for cheap and get enough money from them to fix the car. As of right now I have a donor car that Im hopefully getting for free, if not free less than $100..... hopefully after that ill have enough money to get a paint job, and a vtec to drop in there.

If this is a 93, the book value is so low that I can guarantee it's totalled.

Be careful about keeping cars with frame damage. You really need a professional chassis shop to align it back to normal with this kind of hit, and that costs $$$.

Im positive its totaled after some of the phone calls Ive had, I was only doing about 30 when I hit him... I think it actually looks alot worse than it is. I dont think the core support was damaged. Im hoping I just need new from plastic and fender. Not much you can do though.... stuff happens

can someone tell me if its hard to replace the core support on this car.... I know on chevys it just bolts on and is easily replaceable, is it the same case with this car?

try and find another one with the insurance money. it'll be more safe and cheaper than trying to fix yours.

Ive thought about that and that shouldnt be to bad... plenty around here for around what I should get in insurance.... but this one has sentimental value to me.... I couldnt stand hondas at first... this one is the first honda I ever rode/drove.... it took me 5 years to get the guy to sell it to me... so I would like to fix it if possible. the core support is bent a little.... dosnt look like anything to serious, just a little tweaked where the drivers fender bolts to it. I already have a donor car lined up thats either gonna be free or about $100 so hopefully this will work out

hello from tulsa!

i have the same problem as you with the sentimental value.. i go back and forth between wanting to sell mine and buy one in better condition vs. just fixing the one i've got. if i was in your situation though and the insurance $ is enough to buy another one... i'd do just that and get one w/ vtec already in it.

how many miles on this one?

its got 139k miles on it, other than the drivers door and needing a paint job there was nothing wrong with it. Im still waiting for the insurance adjuster to come out and look at it but Im 99.99% sure its totaled, the insurance will only be about 2700.00 if even that. if it is totaled and I get about that much i can fix the front end (assuming the core support just bolts in there) for less than $300 if it even cost me anything. i can get a h22 (computer and all) for about $200, and have a buddy that will paint the car for free, just charge me for the paint at cost.

For all of the hook ups it seems like you have just find a nicer 94 or 95 Si or VTEC since it will have the el gauges, cup holder, nicer tweeter covers etc. and have that guy paint it to whatever color you want. Being that the condition of replaceable body parts wont be an issue since you have a painter you could get one for pretty cheap.

it looks like he hit you in the side in the first picture. if so, its done. if the front damage is it, then im sure it can be saved.

Front is all that was damaged, my drivers door was already dented... I hit him in the drivers door and it spun his car around facing the road he was turning off of. Do I know I need a new hood, drivers fender, front plastic, core support is tweaked abit.... I'm hoping the core support is easily replacable.

Are those glow in the dark flames on the Firebird?

Good luck with getting it fixed. I hear you on the sentimental value, I put so much time and money into my 4G that whenever someone approaches me wanting to buy it, I always decline because I don't think I can part with it.

well once the insurance guy looked at it and I actually got to start taking the front end apart.... it dosnt actually look that bad. needs new core support, fender, radiator, perfect time to get carbon fiber hood, and bumper... all in all not that bad, perfect time to get some one piece after market headlights also.

ya man... dont bother fixing it. Take it from me... the guy who drove a busted/totaled prelude for 3 years AFTER the accident, hoping i could fix it someday.

Sell it for parts, and use the money for another one. You'll be better off.

And just in case u are interested, heres some pics from my accident..

Once i finally get rid of the thing, i found this beauty

Well you got the heart of the beast in your new one eh? So you still got some of the sentimental value. =D

I know where your at though, I crashed my My 2001 honda prelude in december with only 80,000 Km
... when I shoulder checked to change lanes, traffic started to slow real quick, I turned my head around it was already to late and I slid into the back of an F150.
The next day its still in perfectly driveable condition so Im driving it home from work, and some lady in a le sabre smokes me from behind busts my trunk in a bit, and tears my rear bumper in two. This of course was all in very cold calgary weather with lots of ice and snow. (I shouldnt have been driving that car in that weather but I didn't really have a choice.)

Im holding onto mine because the frame damage is extremely minor according to the collision centre and im doing all the other repairs myself. the car is worth 12,000 easy here all fixed up, even with a salvaged title.

Maybe I should paint my wheels black too. They're so old and scuffed up it might make the car look better.
