First of all i am running the stock h23 with almost 200k mi on it. Ive posted some pics when i 1st bought it a few weeks ago. Body and interior is in awesome condition so naturally engine/suspension is where i wanna drop the majority of my money. This car will be a DD but i want to be able to play. No crazy high hp setups. No drag, and i guess you could say little bits of autox when i wanna have fun.
1st thing ive been running through my head is my engine situation. With 200k on it, its going to need some love. It is currently in amazing condition for the miles(no leaks/no crazy oil burning). But do i rebuild it? Do i h22 swap? The biggest problem comes to the fact i wont be doing it myself. I have no space or the correct tools(even though i would love to). When it comes to price would it end up being better/cheap in the long run to just do the swap? Buy the engine, clean and build up what i can and pay to have my shop drop it in? OR just take her in and have them do a big ol once over on the h23?
If i did the h22 swap the only aftermarket id probly drop on it would be CAI, headers, and maybe a few cosmetics. If i did the h23 id have a few more bucks to throw at it for aftermarket internals and such. Also extra cash to throw at the rest of the car.
That said, id also like to replace all my bushings, i was thinking of going kyb agx/eibach springs or something similar, nothing crazy or stiff. Roads can be kinda junk around where i live.
Gunna do a brake job some decent cross drilled rotors and pads all the way around. I do have a question about the SS brake lines. Would it be worth it to do them? I do live in wi and will be driving during/around winter and the roads get nasty with salt. Would the ss prevent long term erosion of stock lines?(lol kind of a dumb question) my lines currently look great so i really dont think there is a need though.
I have some ****ty rial 16's on it atm and want to replace them with these:
Package Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct
I think they will look good with the little bit of drop and the fresco blue. I think the fit wont be a problem.
No matter if i go h22 or h23 ill be getting some cheap headers dc/megan and the apexi ws2 catback. Not sure if im gunna do the test pipe/high flow cat. I have no emissions where i live so that doesnt matter. Just not sure it will make a huge difference.
As for cosmetics im gunna go for the jdm 1pc black headlights, possibly the fogs. Im still unsure about clearing taillights/clear front bumper lights. Also still thinking about the 5th gen moonroof and gauge cluster. but i kinda like the 4g sunroof. also still throwing around the wwrs kit. I love how it looks just not sure i wanna mess with a kit.
Lastly the transmission. I wanna put a new clutch in. But it comes down to if i do the h22 swap or not. I dont think im gunna bother with the lsd at the moment, but id like to just keep the h23 tranny. or if buying a complete jdm h22 with a tranny should i just put that in anyway? would that make it easier to do the lsd at a later time?
Well thats all i can think of atm. Any criticism/suggestions/pointers would be awesome. thanks

--Well if you did the swap, which would make it much more fun to drive, you'll pay a nice chunk of change for an engine. There's some on ebay for like 1200 bucks unless you can find a junkyard where its cheaper. A shop wouldn't charge much, just the labor which would kill you
--Of course the h22 vtec and tranny makes a huge difference. If you dont throwdown for turbo, the vtec makes the car SO MUCH MORE fun to drive!
--If you stay with your h23, which there's nothing wrong with that, then yes do CAI/headers, etc. that will automatically and cheaply give you some ponys.
--as for the suspension, any new suspension is going to be stiff if it's brand new, and a brand name. Most of them lower your car somewhat to, so be careful what you're shopping for.
--Bushings are always A+
--I like the cross drilled rotors, they break nicely with some sport break pads.
--If your break lines look fine, then ya, don't touch 'em.
--I'd take your new baby to the shop and have them run over the engine, unless you know how to judge a bad belt, and find any damage anywhere.
--Change your spark plugs and put in bigger racing spark plug wires.
--Make sure there's no oil in your spark plug wells first
--The cat won't make a difference it being there or not, but it will determine whether your exhaust sounds deeper. It'll be louder without the cat since the cat acts as it's own silencer. just get a high flow cat
--As for cosmetics, slap some wax on the rust spots (if any) to slow oxidation, or if you can manage, find some panels, replace spots that are rusted and repaint the whole car, THATS my favorite thing to do.
--Leave the electrical for when you have a few days off to do nothing. Electrical such as guage cluster or moon roof are a pain in the ass if you haven't done them before.
--The clutch is always a good idea, if you don't want a real nice one, stay with a stage 1. it's like stock just with better and more noticeable grab. Stage 2 if you like a little challenge and etc.
