Gunna drop some $$ need some opinions.(long)

So i have this fresco blue 92 si and im gunna drop some money into it. Not so sure how much yet, but its gunna be enough for a nice upgrade.

First of all i am running the stock h23 with almost 200k mi on it. Ive posted some pics when i 1st bought it a few weeks ago. Body and interior is in awesome condition so naturally engine/suspension is where i wanna drop the majority of my money. This car will be a DD but i want to be able to play. No crazy high hp setups. No drag, and i guess you could say little bits of autox when i wanna have fun.

1st thing ive been running through my head is my engine situation. With 200k on it, its going to need some love. It is currently in amazing condition for the miles(no leaks/no crazy oil burning). But do i rebuild it? Do i h22 swap? The biggest problem comes to the fact i wont be doing it myself. I have no space or the correct tools(even though i would love to). When it comes to price would it end up being better/cheap in the long run to just do the swap? Buy the engine, clean and build up what i can and pay to have my shop drop it in? OR just take her in and have them do a big ol once over on the h23?

If i did the h22 swap the only aftermarket id probly drop on it would be CAI, headers, and maybe a few cosmetics. If i did the h23 id have a few more bucks to throw at it for aftermarket internals and such. Also extra cash to throw at the rest of the car.

That said, id also like to replace all my bushings, i was thinking of going kyb agx/eibach springs or something similar, nothing crazy or stiff. Roads can be kinda junk around where i live.

Gunna do a brake job some decent cross drilled rotors and pads all the way around. I do have a question about the SS brake lines. Would it be worth it to do them? I do live in wi and will be driving during/around winter and the roads get nasty with salt. Would the ss prevent long term erosion of stock lines?(lol kind of a dumb question) my lines currently look great so i really dont think there is a need though.

I have some ****ty rial 16's on it atm and want to replace them with these:
Package Wheel Details - Discount Tire Direct
I think they will look good with the little bit of drop and the fresco blue. I think the fit wont be a problem.

No matter if i go h22 or h23 ill be getting some cheap headers dc/megan and the apexi ws2 catback. Not sure if im gunna do the test pipe/high flow cat. I have no emissions where i live so that doesnt matter. Just not sure it will make a huge difference.

As for cosmetics im gunna go for the jdm 1pc black headlights, possibly the fogs. Im still unsure about clearing taillights/clear front bumper lights. Also still thinking about the 5th gen moonroof and gauge cluster. but i kinda like the 4g sunroof. also still throwing around the wwrs kit. I love how it looks just not sure i wanna mess with a kit.

Lastly the transmission. I wanna put a new clutch in. But it comes down to if i do the h22 swap or not. I dont think im gunna bother with the lsd at the moment, but id like to just keep the h23 tranny. or if buying a complete jdm h22 with a tranny should i just put that in anyway? would that make it easier to do the lsd at a later time?

Well thats all i can think of atm. Any criticism/suggestions/pointers would be awesome. thanks

--Well if you did the swap, which would make it much more fun to drive, you'll pay a nice chunk of change for an engine. There's some on ebay for like 1200 bucks unless you can find a junkyard where its cheaper. A shop wouldn't charge much, just the labor which would kill you

--Of course the h22 vtec and tranny makes a huge difference. If you dont throwdown for turbo, the vtec makes the car SO MUCH MORE fun to drive!

--If you stay with your h23, which there's nothing wrong with that, then yes do CAI/headers, etc. that will automatically and cheaply give you some ponys.

--as for the suspension, any new suspension is going to be stiff if it's brand new, and a brand name. Most of them lower your car somewhat to, so be careful what you're shopping for.

--Bushings are always A+

--I like the cross drilled rotors, they break nicely with some sport break pads.

--If your break lines look fine, then ya, don't touch 'em.

--I'd take your new baby to the shop and have them run over the engine, unless you know how to judge a bad belt, and find any damage anywhere.

--Change your spark plugs and put in bigger racing spark plug wires.

--Make sure there's no oil in your spark plug wells first

--The cat won't make a difference it being there or not, but it will determine whether your exhaust sounds deeper. It'll be louder without the cat since the cat acts as it's own silencer. just get a high flow cat

--As for cosmetics, slap some wax on the rust spots (if any) to slow oxidation, or if you can manage, find some panels, replace spots that are rusted and repaint the whole car, THATS my favorite thing to do.

--Leave the electrical for when you have a few days off to do nothing. Electrical such as guage cluster or moon roof are a pain in the ass if you haven't done them before.

--The clutch is always a good idea, if you don't want a real nice one, stay with a stage 1. it's like stock just with better and more noticeable grab. Stage 2 if you like a little challenge and etc.

--oh ya...USE THE FORUM SEARCH FEATURE. Everyone that has just gotten a prelude ask the same question. SEARCH for your questions i'm sure someone has already answered them 50 times and do your research.

Awesome tips! I did send about the past 2 weeks searching these forums left and right. Thats basically where i got the setup that i explained. I did just get off the phone with my local shop and they quoted me 3500 for the full install. That inclueds the full h22 engine/tranny/ecu and labor. Said it would probly take a couple days so it sounds like thats the route ill probly go. Like i said i have no space at my place to even stick an engine if i were to order one myself lol.

As for rust. Only rust on the entire car is paint bubbles on the sunroof. Easy fix =)

Any suggestions as to some things i sould drop in the H22 right away before they put it in? ie. pullys or aftermarket gaskets(im gunna do a search for those right now)

Thanks for the input!

Brakes:

What I would suggest would be upgrade to the Vtec calipers / rotors and get solid (blank) rotors

It would pain me to see more cross drilled rotors on the road whenever they are more negative than positive as far as street performance goes (even road racing performance). Just buy some decent STREET pads and flush. Don't buy race pads or slotted or drilled rotors. If you want the look, fine, just don't fall into that false sense that you are actually braking faster/shorter.

FYI I would replace the stock lines with more stock lines. You can get SS (I had them) but you need to be careful and replace every two years or so if you get SS lines.

Hrmm vtec brakes huh? ill have to look into that. I never dived to deep into the brake stuff so the cross drilled/slotted blah blah seems to be the standard for most members.

Since my brake lines are good already i have a feeling ill just be leaving them be.

thanks for the info!

I guess i should update!

I just ordered a few things.

I ended up going with Motegi FF7 17x114.3 wrapped in kuhmo 17/40r17
Tien stech springs with toki illumina 5way shocks
es full bushing kit
megan headers
Apexi ws2 catback
I also went with some depo 1pc black housing lights (i know i probly should have gone jdm but i really dig the look of these depo lights and i can always switch it up later)

I am also gunna take it in and get my h23 tuned up. new timing belt/water pump and some basic over all maintenance.

I will post some before/after pics in the next couple weeks once the parts start rollin in and i get them installed.

Oh and i gotta get my front passenger wheel bearing checked out. Im getting a low tone hum coming from it when im cruising upwards of 65-75 on the highway.
