Man, turning the key for the first time on the JDM H22 swap was one of the most nerve-racking expereinces of my life. I primed the fuel system by turning the key to "start" a few times before cranking it. The first time I tried to crank it, there was some, uhhhhh.....interesting noises coming from the engine bay. Somewhat disapointed and scared as hell, I gave it a second shot, BINGO!! Fired right up!! After about 10 seconds of smoking and sputtering, the idle stabilized and no more smoke coming from the exhaust manifold!! The check engine light is on (duh. . .no O2 sensor, IAC, or VTEC sensors connected) but it actually idles pretty smooth. Upon start-up, its at about 1,500 RPM (but it dosn't fluctuate). I havent let it run for a few minutes yet, to see if the idle will drop once it warms up. MAN, what a relief. . .now I just gotta finish the clutch master cylinder, wire some VTEC, and shes ready for a trip around the block!! Yeah for me. . .

congrats, it's going to be som much quicker than the F22.
It had damn well better be. Today is the 8th day I've been working on it ( I did spend like 2 days cleaning the engine and engine bay though). Except the help of one friend actaully dropping the H22 in, this has been a solo project. I really took my time doing the wiring and re-looming all the extra wires my harness didn't have. Nothing on it is half-assed (except the coil mounting I did).
c'mon and be like me and stick with the h23!!! trust me if you get the jdm h22a, you will tend to do more mods and more and morrreee!! it's a disease i tell ya! this way if you stick with the h23a1, you can't do too much with it because not a lot of tuners make thing for the h23. now watch.. when you get the h22a, you will end up getting things like Type S pistons, JUN cams, JUN cam gears, new head gasket, etc... and you know how much that will add up to? okay so 3k for a 35 hp boost! i mean when will the mods end?!?!
p.s. you can ignore my rambling excuses not to get an h22a above...
I just jumped my ECU to read off the malfunction codes. I got 2 codes (#21 and #41) which correspond to the VTEC system and O2 sensor, respectivley. This is a relief, since the VTEC wires have not been plugged into the ECU yet, and there is no O2 sensor (or exhaust, for that matter) on the car. I guess I got everything else wired correctly. Hopefully, I'll have no codes once I pin the VTEC wires into the ECU and add the O2 sensor (fingers crossed).

You are right, Alex, but I'm getting SOOOOOO bored w/ my H23. I need some more oomph! When I finally move out to Cali, you can bet I'll be contacting DPR about a very nice head package. I'm gonna work w/ the H23 'til it grenades, and then go JDM H22.

N O O B?? Um.... no. I think any swap is going to take time and money to do correctly. I personally think it is worth the difference, just for the power gains & compression ratio gains. Plus, many people just like having JDM stuff in their car, I'm guessing. JDM's don't cost that much more than USDM H22's, these days. Osaka's selling them for blowout prices, nowadays.

I think so. It's only like 10 hp more, but you've already got all the JDM spec internals, so I'd take it just stock, and then get some crazy headwork & cams done. 10 HP is 10 HP, and when I do my future swap, I'll need all the power I can get, Hahaha.

JDM engines are ususally CHEAPER than USDM swaps, but I can't figure out why. I guess JDM engines are cheaper because they arn't as "plug and play" as their US counterparts. They are also easier to come by.
