Is Grinding a symptom of a bad cv joint?

I hear this horrible metal on metal grinding whenever I make a hard right turn. The outer cv boots look fine, but the inner boards have a good amount of grease around them. The sound isnt the typical pop, click, or clunk..so if it is my cv joint is it still salvagable or do i need to replace the whole axle or can I get away with replacing the boot with more grease?

I've also considered that this could be a brake related problem. Rotors and pads appear to be normal. The Wheels spins freely when the car was jacked up, so im guessing the calipers arent dragging. There was no apparent grinding while I had the wheels lock to the right (on jack stands).

Will the cv joint be subjected to more force while the wheels are spinning on the ground as opposed to spinning freely on jack stands?

Im pretty sure I will have to do something about the cv boot, but is this the cause of my grinding or should I be looking somewhere else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hmm..

on my car, it doesnt make the grinding noise going in reverse. I'm probably going to take a look at it one more time before I fork out the money for some new axles.
