Now this topic has been discussed many times, but I want answers from people who have experience of the Greddy or DC CC header. The question is, which one is best for performance? I'm guessing it's the Greddy, but I want to know why, and what performance gains I would make from the two.
I never had the car on a dyno, but it definitely seems to have improved in the high end.
I never heard the secondary runners opening before the install of the GReddy header and now I hear and feel it everytime VTEC engages. When the runners open at about 4000 RPM, It feels like a mini VTEC surge and then I get the real thing at 5200. VTEC engages smoother and feels more powerful. I also saw an increase in the speed at which the needle climbs on the tach. Before I know it, it is time to shift.
I do feel a slight decrease in power in the low end but the mid - high end gain is worth the compromise. It feels a little sluggish before 2000 but once you pass that mark, you can definitely feel the difference.
Another plus, was that they didn't increase the sound of my exhaust. If it did, it is minimal and I can't even notice it. My exhaust is loud enough and I don't want to atract anymore attention, so the GReddy header was a perfect decision.
Fit and quality are A-plus, needed no fabrication to install - no headaches at all.
I don't have any experience with DC either, but I love my GReddy as well.
In terms of gains, I wouldn't stay there's a huge difference, but it has a little more pick up after 3k. The thing I love most is that it makes the engine so much smoother throughout the whole rpm band.
Sorry to get a little off topic but Mark, do you clean/polish your header? If you do, what do you use? Mine doesn't shine anymore.
I do clean mine every so often. Mine still look pretty good despite my failure to wipe it clean before starting the car for the first time since the install.
The only thing I've found to work decently is a product called NOXON. It is an all metal polish which you can find at Home Depot and is found in a green bottle. I use it on all my metals under the hood (strut bars, block, head, intake tube, etc.)
Here is what my engine looked like after using the NOXON.
I know a lot of people avoid Asylum Motorsports, but I have had decent experiences with them and that is where I got my header from. I ordered mine and my brother's header from them at the same time and we got both for $370 shipped a piece.
they have screwed up a few of my orders, but they did correct them.
I'm still running a stock header too, still can't seem to come to a decision about which to get. Although, with the strong Pound and weak Yen, the Mugen is seeming a more attractive option....
I have DC header. When I first installed it I noticed a great deal of power after 3.5k rpm all the way to 5k rpm. I took my friend for a ride after I got in and he was amazed how much better the car was pulling, he said "You don't even have to go beyond 5k rpm!" and I agree. VTEC was improved, it pulls mad hard and is felt all the way in 5th gear. But the heat under the hood increased drastically. I would reccomend wraping the headers, otherwise if you have alluminum intake it you will be loosing power.
Hi UK. Have you heard of V-Spec Developments in Newcastle? They do the Greddy header for about £400, but I could possibly get it for less if we both buy together. What do you think? He says delivery is 4-6 weeks, but I think this is by sea, which is why the price is cheap (for the UK anyway ).
Maybe he could do us a deal for air freight - about 2 weeks delivery??
I need one NOW! I got the Apexi VAFC fitted on Friday night, but don't want to pay to get it tuned until I have the header.......
Mail me at work, as I don't use the home email that much.
