I just had the muffler shop weld on a straight pipe. no leaks, the car sounds much better in my opinion, more beefy, and it breaths better, maybe a horsepower or two gain from it.
chances are, there is something in the exhaust ( a sudden change in piping diamater, for example) that is causing a disruption in the airflow, which is making that weird noise. My old lude did it as well when I gutted the cat.
well, i can understand the noise coming from a gutted cat, since ur going froma 2.25" pipe to a big ~3.5" canister then back to the small 2.25" pipe... i had my 8 year old bro give my car gas while i stood behind it. sounded OK. the raspyness seems to be something i left loose under there.
You'll probably loose some torque and pollute a hell of lot more for what a few extra ponies. I think straight piping is the most retarded thing to do... I'm no tree hugger but think of the air you and I breath...your destroying it more than you have to.

I knew someone had to say it. Thanks for stepping up.
If you want to complain about air pollution & exhaust systems, don't do it in a Honda forum. Your time would be better spent spreading that gospel in a V8 American forum. We, and the Russians are the most horid polluters in the world.
