My buddy gave me an estimated price for the H22/23.
For parts and labor minus the head its about 900. He will charge me $300 for labor, and the other cost is for a valve job, cap, rotor, spark plug wires, spark plugs...etc. I am not sure how much a head runs, but my guess would be around 600. I figure that about $1500 for an H22/H23 hybrid is a pretty good deal, and I am going to go that route. Before I do it, though, I am going to buy a daily driver like a CRX HF.
Just remember that the H23 bottom end will not be able to rev as high as the H22 reliably. Sounds like a good price.
On the other side of the coin, I used to have an H23 and I swapped in a JDM H22. I really didn't notice the loss in low end torque. I now have a very reliable, low mileage stock engine that I know I can beat on without serious risk.
Good luck on the hybrid but I would consider building the bottom end in the future.
I would do H22, but the CA smog laws suck. I will build the bottom end in the future, but I would love to get it up and running first. I am also going to get a V-AFC II, so I will probably end up spending about 2k before the job is finished
I have had an H23vtec for some time, hit me up if you have ?'s Listen to people that have the swap also, most have no idea what they are talking about, and only hear the rumors.
My buddy used to work for a performance shop here in San Diego, so he knows his stuff. He has the fastest ZC engine to date in his 89 Civic. He ran a 12.2, and he built the engine and turbo himself. As soon as I mentioned my hybrid, he rattled off all the needed parts with prices before I could write them down.
