Going nuts!!

Yes, thats what im going. Well over those damn nuts that connect my headers to the catalytic converter. I used a wrench to break it and almost stripped it. I used a rachet and I wasn't strong enough. I notice there is allitle corrosion on the nuts and bolts themself (don't know it its rust or not). What is the best thing to use to get them off ( techniques, tools, stuff to put on it to free it)?Anything will help I just don't want to strip to bolt and loose that part of my headers.

acetylene. You need to super-heat those bolts up to loosen all the rust (yep, that's what it is) which basically has a hold on those bolts. It CAN be done at home, but you're better off just paying someone a small amount at a muffler shop to torch them off, you can then save the rest of your money and drive home with the cat off, or I suppose after the bolts are loosened, you can put them back on loosely and then remove them again when you get home. I tried to use a $12 blow torch and do them myself, I did get one to budge, right before the head broke off in my socket wrench.

Bah, I used a very long 'cheater bar' method Had my old man hold the head of the ratchet on the nut and I extended the ratchet to where I was standing next to the driver's side door and used all that leverage and broke it loose

Aye, we are very Shay Treeish at his garage

I did the same thing to my cat when i was replacing it. the bolts got striped. so i took the whole header off, and the back portion of the exhast then used a di grinder to cut the old bolt off.

I had the same problem, but I figured out a way to attach two wrenches together to make a nifty little breaker bar that could fit under the car. I got them on the nuts real tight then I hit the wrenches with a hammer to loosen the nuts.

Well I didn't exactly get the nut off, so I just swapped the whole exhaust system. took 5 and 1/2 hours (with no power tools). lol, no break, or lunch. It was well worth it though. Thanks for all the help

lol, so you replaced the cat too? hehe, I was wondering when my bro and I were trying to get mine loose if it coule even be done, I guess you HAVE to separate the manifold from the a-pipe, but otherwise I suppose it's possible. Wasn't it hard to remove the length of piping from all the hangers while they were connected?
