I say spend your $2500 on a good LSD, suspension setup, and some good tires and go autocross you'll soon realize that you won't need much more hp to have a great time with your car.
Although I strongly support the "more whp = more fun" theme, you are absolutley right. First time I autocrossed the lude it was in almost stock trim, that day I realized how fun these cars can be.
the most ive seen an N/A prelude come to is 270whp, it was the jun prelude, theres a nice vid of it on youtube, the car was built to be fairly streetable so it may be possible to go to 300whp. im hoping to build something like they did since forced induction can be short lived...
also, for N/A dont use steel internals, go with lighter materials, they can handle it since theres no boosting youll have better engine response with lighter parts like forged aluminum.
