It all depends on how much you trust your mechanic. If my mechanic told me my tranny needed service, I would leave it right there and let him service it. For the injectors, go down to PepBoys or any other autopart store and buy some fuel system cleaner and follow the instructions on the bottle.

Does your tranny feel strange to you? Is it making noise it shouldnt? Leaking fluid? Grinding? If it is any of these things, please let it get serviced, or you could end up with a bigger problem than you started with. Good luck...

my tranny doesn't seem to be doing anything odd, but when he checked the tranny fluid he said it was almost black, instead of yellowish.

the only thing that grinds when i shift is when i shift from second to third. but that only happens when i quickshift (bad synchros i think).

He probably means tht you need to have the tranny fluid changed. The transmissions on our cars are supposed to have the oil changed every 3 or 4 engine oil changes. They recommend good ol' 10w30 for the tranny.

For my JDM LSD tranny I use a $15 a liter Motul synthetic motorcycle oil, because it is made for transmission use, and the M2B4 LSD trannys have a Clutch type LSD, very similar to a motorcycle clutch.

How hard is it to change the tranny fluid yourself? Any special tools involved?

all you need is a rachet....no socket, just a rachet and a 17 or 19mm wrench. The rachet fits onto the drain plug....remove that and drain it. Also take out the filler screw (with the wrench).

At this point you will want a pump and a couple of quarts of fluid....Its damn near impossible to do it without one.

If you are unsure about it, get a manual and read up on it. The manual is GOD
