Gearing question

Ok, i am still a bit new at posting stuff here, so forgive the noobish questions.

I have a '93 prelude VTEC and i have had comments by a few friends about my rpms. Normally i stick it in 5th on the freeway and just cruise and my buddy noticed that i was doing 75 mph at about 4k rpm and said that was unusually high. Now i don't know a think about gearing or anything like that. I just bought the car like this. Is this high for this make? And if so, what would be causeing it to be so much higher?

Sounds about right

What cars do they drive? My domestic driving friends were always in shock at those crazy high RPMs on the highway

The part that was really concerning me is one of thoes people telling me it was high was my boss at work. Hes got a 5th gen, but auto, and he was telling me it was definatly too high. My father was another and yes hes a Chevy/domestic guy.

the autos got only 4 gears, hes probably revving alot higher than you on the highway, yours is about right.

^actually having 4 gears means he's probably got a widerspread.

It doesn't translate exactly to only having the manual 4 gears.

Auto preludes are about the same with 4 gears as manual 5 gears. Why do you think they're slower? For the same power they just have worse gearing which is why before, manuals were always faster / more economical.

Nowadays with 7 spd auto trannies, manuals are the thing of the past.

nothing will still transfer power better than a true manual, i dont think i could ever be happy with an automatic car unless im like super old. i saw this video where they tested the evo X vs the new STi and the evos auto tranny proved it to be a good deal slower.
