Gearbox oil plug damaged, oil leakage question

Hi guys and girls,

I changed my transmission oil today and noticed that a large part of the oil plug magnet was broken of and sticking to the other part of the magnet. Any ideas how this could have happend? Is the magnet necessary because I removed it just in case.

The car also has an oil leak somewhere, but I'm unable to trace it. It's not leaking a lot but when I remove the oil and drive the car for a week or so, then there oil on the back and bottom right side of the engine.

Regards,
DarnDao

You drive your car without any oil in it?

Yes I do, just love the sound of pistons scratching the cylinder walls . No seriously what I meant was, when I remove the oil which is the result of the yet to be found leak.

when you say it's leaking from the bottom right side I assume you mean the bottom passenger side? If so it could be:

- oil pan gasket
- oil cooler oring(common, my money's on this)
- Rear main seal(worst case)
- Transmission input shaft seal(still bad)

as far as your magnet get a new one(drain plug) transmissions create alot of metal particulate and the magnet keeps it from wearing away at the gears even more....
