okay, so i swapped my 93 cluster for a 94 El Cluster and everything went fine. The speedo works, tach works, lights up fine, but i have an automatic and the wiring was only for a standard. So my park neutral, reverse, D4, D3, 2, 1, indicator lights don't light up. Not too bad right?
Well, now my car, when in D4-1, only shifts once. Its like it only has D4 and 2. Is this because of the cluster swap. I didn't think that this would happen because it seems like only a indicator light. Anyways, if anyone could help it would be awesome.
Well the main problem is that it's an auto, but you can't fix that, so I won't pester you anymore about it. You mean to say that the car only actually shifts between 2 gears when you drive, from 1st to 2nd gear, and that's it? I can't see how this has anything to do with the guage swap, anyone else know?
Well it shifts between 2nd and 4th. There is no 1st or 3rd. Its really weird because i didn't think the gauge cluster would have anything to with this. I just need the complete wiring from a helms i think.
nothing on the dash gauges can change the way your car runs, they're only gauges. Something else is wrong with your trans/trans ecu UNLESS.. what did you do with the wires that are supposed to control the gear indicators? If they're touching eachother that MIGHT POSSIBLY do something, but it's doubtful.
yeah that wouldn't make sense, I would figure those gear indicator wires to be one-way: when he changes gears, it sends a signal down the wire to the guage, there'd be no reason for the light or guage to send a signal back to the transmission. So, basically, as we've all said, definitely not the guage.
My auto does the same thing...But it doesn't do it all the time. I have not worried about it because I finally have all the parts for my manual swap, but I have wondered about what causes it to do this. Basically just know that you are not alone in this problem.
Awesome, at least it happened to someone else as well, i just dont know what to do, anyway, i am going to take it out and look over it again. thanks for the input
you can still "manually" shift the tranny, but it won't downshift on it's own...I just turn the car off, reset the ecu and then it's fine...It seems to do it more with mine as it's warming up rather than when it is completely warm or cold.
