Gasoline Question

Hello everybody, I just joined this site and I have a question regaurding the type of gas I should use. I just bought a 1992 Honda Prelude Si with an H23a1 non vtech, catback exhaust, cold air intake and sway bars. The person who I bought the car from used premium (93) gas but I can't afford to use it, what do you guys think? Is it okay if I switch to regular?

USE PREMIUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO OTHER.

premium gas burns hotter than regular. Dont you think there is a reason it calls for it.

No.. premium Burns *SLOWER* and reduces detonation. Its why you'll actually loose power (or at least will not gain any) in a properly running engine that is designed for regular when you fill it with premium. The engine doesn't have the advanced timing or higher compression you need to extract the benefits out of premium.

Its also the reason you should run premium in the prelude is because of the timing and compression. Sure you could run 87 but the ecu will retard the timing and as carbon builds up over time (effectively increasing compression) or under heavy load with a warm motor you increase the chance of detonation a good bit.

Just stick to premium to extract max power out of your motor and reduce the chance.of detonation which can lead to big issues

"Premium" = yes. I didn't know that before I bought mine either. It's recommended for a reason....or two...or a few...

x2.

Maybe don't buy a Coke or something, and there is the extra money to buy the correct octane gasoline.

It was just a question dude, it's not easy when after your bills you have $20 left over for gas, cigs and food.

Cigarettes are not a necessity, sounds like you need to better prioritize, if you can't afford to smoke than you have no business doing so.

You could take that $20, take it to a casino and start "rollinthatdice" to try and double it so you can buy cigs AND gas!
