gasoline additives worth it?

Are there any kind of gasoline additives like fuel injecter cleaner for example that are even worth using and if so how often? Also what about a fuel injecter cleaning service? I have 96k on my lude and i'm sure this has never been done. i know i can probably find everything i need to know in a helms manual. I'll order one next time i get paid. The chilton manual sucks.

I had my injectors cleaned professionally at 80k. I must say that it made the car seem more perky than before.

heard good thing about the cheveron techron fuel system cleaner! I use it myself! Not sure that it really does all that much, but it seems like my engine is a little happier after i put it in...just make sure you put it in w/a full tank of gas and run it till it's almost dry!

I know that you're in the U.K, and that I'm in the U.S, but who did you have do this for you? Can I take my RC 550 injectors to any mechanic? Thanks!

I took it to a Bosch fuel injection specialist. I doubt that just any mechanic can do it, they would just send them to the same place as where I got them done.

Try the yellow pages for someone who specialises in fuel injection systems, that's what I did.

Message to U.K. VTEC:

How much did it cost to get your injectors cleaned and how long did it take?

My 1997 5th gen Prelude VTI has done 46000 miles so it may not need doing yet, coupled with the fact that I have used fuel treatment a few times. I am considering getting Honda to do it the next time it gets serviced (if it is not too expensive). Anyway, I can ask them to do it and they can tell me they have done it afterwards, but the question is - have they?

Has anyone used Shell Optimax? It is supposed to have some extra detergents in it (and also has a higher octane level).

I dropped the injectors off in the morning and picked them up at lunchtime, so it doesn't take long to do. As for the cost, it was £60 for the four and they were like new so it was much cheaper than new ones.

As for the dealer, it depends on how honest they are....but I could tell that they had been done.

Shell Optimax, I use nothing else. Being a Jap import, my car needs the better fuel. It will run ok on regular unleaded, but I had it tuned to run on Optimax so that's what I use.
