Gas Light Mileage

How long do i have to get some gas once the light comes on, i know it fades off and on. Does it get brighter as im almost out? or what is the reason it gets brighter?

I have gone >50 miles with the gas light doing it's thing. Get gas....I ran out once....not good. That's the way mine did, then it went off. Then I ran out of gas. I haven't seen the light on since then. The lowest I have been on gas since was 2 bars....that was yesterday, but not for long.

yea I went a long ass time with the light on. I went over 20 miles with zero bars babying the **** out of it. Like 50 mph in a 65 on the Garden State Parkway lol. It was like 11:00 pm and I was broke as hell and my direct deposit was going through at midnight that night so I just kept driving until then. I finally had to pull into a gas station and wait like 15 mins for the DD to go through cuz I was so close to getting stranded lol.

I believe the gas light comes on when you have 1/7 of a tank left. It should be explained in your owner's manual. So to find out how many miles you have left to travel:

- You will have to assume that your fuel level sensor is accurate.
- You will have to have reset your trip odometer when you last filled up (complete tank)
- You will have to assume that the last 1/7 of the tank will see similar driving situations as to what the first 6/7 of the tank saw.
- Divide your current trip odometer mileage by 6.
- This would be a fairly accurate measure of your remaining mileage on the tank.

lol, gas light not working ftw!. I'd be scared to run the tank sooo low to the brink of exhausting it completely. Who knows what kinda crap you'd be sucking in from the bottom of the tank that the filter doesn't get.
