Full advance on timing only 14 deg. .... 1 tooth off on t-belt??
I timed my H22 build for the first time today and it was set at 8 degrees BTDC, so I advanced it, and found that at FULL advance it only goes to 14 degrees BTDC. Could it be that I'm retarded 1 tooth on my exhaust cam? Or I guess it would be both cams?? Since they're lined up I would have to change both cams? Cause I know I should be able to advance my timing a lot more than to 14 drgrees.
Yes I milled the head 30 thou and the block was decked before I got it, don't know how much, but let's just say 5 thou. Stock head gasket.
Yeah I jumped the connector when adjusting the timing, funny thing is, jumping the connector didn't do anything. The timing stayed exactly the same when reading it before adjusting it, with the jumper in and out.
I was thinking about the fact that my head is milled so much.. maybe the belt is just a little offset from where it should be because of it. So it's not that I'm off 1 tooth, but that it's just a little off of where it should be because the distance between the cams and crank is shorter than what it should be?
have you done a compression test?
I found out yesterday that if your belt is off by even 1/2 a tooth on your intake cam you could end up with higher compression than usual.

well I'm running roughly 12.1:1 CR... so I'm going to have a high chamber compression. I did a compression test a couple weeks ago and it was 250 across the board.
I'm thinking that it's the ECU.. when I get my P28 I'll see what it turns out to be.
