fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator?

I have a 93 si and i am having a problem with idleing and gettin my car to start. First, when the weather is hot, sometiems my car wont start. But sometimes it will. this leads me to believe that its the fuel pressure regulator. But also, sometimes when i am comming to a stop my car will just bog down and cut out. MY tac will flucuate and it will just stall out. this usually happens when i am low on gas. which tells me that my fuel pump is probably bad. so i asked the guy at advanced auto parts when i wuz picking up some oil and he said it wuz my fuel filter, but i have already changed that. (guess he doesnt know that much) so i was hoping someone here had an idea or knew for sure what it was.
thx

Depending on the mileage of the car, check spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.

It's also possible the main relay is going bad. When you turn the key to on position (that's when all the lights on dash light up) you you should hear a 'click' sound and then another one coming from underneath the steering column. This turns the fuel pump on and off. If you don't hear it than it's main relay.
Also have the fuel pressure tested, this way you'll know if it's a fuel problem.

You need a fuel pressure gauge that hooks up to the fuel rail. Otherwise a good shop should be able to do it.

just fixed this problem on mine after a long troobleshooting period. fortunately i now have a new fuel pump, filter, and o2 sensor, unfortunately i am stubborn and do all my own maintenance so I could have saved myself the trouble by letting the mech. tell me it was the fuel main relay in the first place. it costs from 45-55 bucks by the way. If you don't get any codes on the ECU thats what it is.
