fuel gauge problem.

hello again.

as I mentioned in a post on the audio section, i just got a '94 prelude.

When it was delivered on friday (just had it shipped from florida), it had no gas in it. so I put gas in it promptly, and drove it. I noticed after about 2 hours of driving, the fuel gauge quit displaying that there was any fuel in the tank, when I had just filled it up.

The problem seemed to cure itself, and I drove it for a couple more days. and the fuel gauge did the same thing. It's got a full tank of gas, and it's not displaying that it has any gas.

The gauge does light up, but none of the indicator bars light up at all on the fuel section (temp gauge seems to work properly).

The second time the gauge quit working, I was actually looking at it, turned my head away, and looked again. I was going around a curve, it displayed half-full (even when it was still full from the fillup the night before), and when I lookd at it a split second later it stopped displaying any fuel bars.

any ideas?

totally off the cuff...Sounds like you have power to the unit.. so we know that works. Maybe the float in the tank is off or a bad connection. Gimme some time to get home and I'll look into it further

My clock does that and found its a loose wire
to the clock. Perhaps the same is true for your fuel bar?

loose wire.

quite possibly. i have a lot of those in my brain, so it wouldn't be totally out of the ordinary to have one in my newly acquired car. 8)

seriously tho, I'm going to have it looked at by one of my pals that does honda repairs at a warranty repair shop. I haven't been too worried, 'cuz this car's first tank had fairly good gas mileage... the gauge came back on this morning and displayed a somewhat accurate account of how much gas I had left ... and despite the fact that i've really been whomping on the car since I got it (and probably shouldn't, as it's going to need a timing belt in the next 10,000 miles or less, and I don't want to speed up the process) it's getting really good gas mileage.

man...

some jerk in a chrysler thought he was king pimp on the highway last night. showed him just what a vtec can do, even in inexperienced hands. 8)

if anyone has any other ideas as to my fuel gauge problem, please drop it here, and i'll pass it on to him. He rarely works on preludes, as they never come in with problems like this -- he sees mostly civics and accords.

cheers in advance for the advice!
