Fuel Filter question..

so I want to replace my fuel filter... but breaking loose the nut on the fuel filter... should I use a flare wrench on it?.. or a crow foot? I tried using a regular wrench.. but it feels like I might strip it.. helms manual doesn't mention about using a flare wrench on it.. but I just want to make sure..

thanks...

a regular wrench should be fine. I never had any problems with it.

Flare wrench is highly recommended. It's a soft metal and will round. Be really careful putting the new one in too. If it's not pefectly lined up you'll strip the threads when you tighten it back up.

I was looking at the diagrams from the factory manual and that bolt is torqued to 20 lb-ft,so it might need a good tug, especially if it hasn't been removed before.

I was surprised to read that the fuel filter should be replaced every 4 years or 60,000 miles- mine has only been changed once when I bought crappy gas. My friend is a Honda tech and he said that he didn't think it really needed to be replaced that frequently, though.

My Prelude has 173,300 miles on it and I've got every piece of paper stating every single bit of service done to it from the original purchase dealer and the filter has never been replaced...and the vehicle runs like it's brand new.

It's good to know that I'm not the only one who keeps fanatical records about every slip of paper from the original window sticker, service records and any part (factory or not) purchased since day one...

one trick some other people mentioned is simply spray WD40 the night before and right before you try to get it off
