Front brake rotor screws

So this weekend I installed my powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads. (Really like them thus far). So when I tried to take out the screws that hold the rotor in they were rusted to hell. I drilled them out and have not yet replaced them. Does the system really need the screws or are they just added protection?

I dont think they do much other than hold the rotors straight if you take everything apart. they're never on tight anyways.

did you try using an impact driver before you drilled them out?

i used a chisel and a hammer to tap the screw counterclockwise cuz i didn't have a screw driver that would properly fit

I think the consensus is Honda uses those to hold the rotors on while in production. If you torque your wheels to spec you should never have a problem.

Hope you don't enjoy your brakes too much. Until after the 500 mile break in

Take some pics. I want to see it.

You can pick up replacement ones at a hardware store, but yeah. . .they just hold the rotor on if you have the wheel off.

Impact driver broke of in the screw head, Snap on too. Glad to hear I'm fine without those screws. I might buy them and reinstall them, it's low on my list though.

Damn that lame break in period! How are you supossed to break in the pads if you have to first break in the rotors . . .weak. I think I took a pic the day I put them in. I will have to look on my laptop when I get home.

LISTEN VERY CAREFULLY.

DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT install your rotors without these screws. I know they are small and seem insignificant. But they wouldn't be there if they didn't have a purpose. The little short Japenese guys at Honda are not stupid. Just try and install your rotors without these screws and see what happens. You can get them at your local Honda dealer from about a buck a piece. Trust me on this.

Um, I did install them without the screws and I have been driving the car since Saturday with no problems thus far. I will try and get the screws from Honda but I think it's not that important.

They've been missing for as long as I've had the car, going on nearly a year and a half now. Nothing so far in 11,000 miles...

wtf?? those screws dont really do to much, like said before they hold the rotors on while the production is done, why would it matter if those screws are there?, the rotor is securely held into place by the actual rim, you do need to torque your lugnuts correctly to tight can warp your rotors, always remove in criss cross pattern ect etc but you guys knew this already, mani thought SARS was coming or something when i saw his post with the caps and all, he was yelling at me

Hey,
Don’t be offended. Just because we disagree doesn't mean we can’t be friends. It's good that you contributed to the thread. Don't worry about it.
