Little silver colored particles are shooting out my tailpipe...I assume it's my catalytic converter taking a crap. My exhaust also makes a "pinging" noise when it warms up. Any chance the two are related? Or is it because the RS*R has larger piping than the stock exhaust?

sorry but it has been proven that hollowing a cat on a 4th gen...or using a race pipe provides no HP benefit.
in some cases you actually lose power because of a lack of back pressure
Some back pressure is good..it creates a vacume that helps to suck out spent gases from the combustion chamber

not to mention I live in CALIFORNIA Emissions laws here suck. I don't have a header yet, but I do have an exhaust, and I will be getting a header early in 2002. By the way, I'll take the cat off your hands machine head, pm me or im me.

hey can you show us the proof of no benefits of using a race pipe...I'd like to read/see proof of that...sounds like valuable info.
This was a long time ago SCC magazine was building a 4th gen prelude for solo rally or something like that. Anyway first thing they did was dump the interior..then they f'd with the suspension...one of the last things they did was hollow the cat after it went bad..dyno'd it and saw no hp gain..then they tried the race pipe..for the most part you actually lost hp...in the very top end there was a blip of gain..but not much. Now this was on an N/A SI 2.3.. Turbo or any FI is a diff story
Well unless you have a nice header then ANY exaust changes are for looks and sound.
The main choke point in most cars is the header. I really dont know much about back pressure tho.
I wouldnt worry about all the crap coming out of your exaust, well as long as its coming from you CAT and not your engine. Look at it this way. You car is sick of having a constricting CAT and its taking the inititive and hollowing it out for you.
Cantdrive55 i thought you had a header???
Hey i have been dying to go on a drive. We should go down to chatsworth and drive thru the canyon. SOunds like fun.
Get back to me on that.
Aftermarket and other cheap cats won't pass California emmisions after a week or so. Honda ones are pricey because they contain rare metals. Ryan take Jason's cat when he finally gets a vtec one.
I had a hollow can on my lude for a few months and when i put that on with exhaust i got a slight gain in hp/torque (seemingly) when i later added in a random tech cat i got a lot more torque with no diff in hp (so it seemed)... I noticed i could pull low end on a lot more cars than prior to the random tech...
as to legality in Cali...
I have the paperwork from random tech on its legality and i have passed the state ref with a random tech and two other smog tests with the random tech on my car as well as dc sports header iceman intake and advanced timing ( except that second bastard who checked m y timing GRRRRRRRRRRR)...
If needed i can supply you with the carb eo # for the random tech high flow cat that is good for 92-96 Preludes
as you guys can see by looking at the post dates, this is an old thread, I already have a new cat, and I've had it for months, and by the way, it passed Smog pretty damn well.
