Fogs are in : Questions and reflections..

Hurray! I got my fog lights installed .. and the relay.

First thing, because the relay/harness is such a hot topic ...
The relay is one of those big square "Relay's" that you can get at the part store. Though there were recent photo's of the relays, they look small and rectangular ... The one I had had the 4 prongs on the bottom, some plastic around and it slid right into the harness ... hurray! (I had this off my old aftermarket fogs which are crap.)

As expected, when I removed my bumper using the write up from http://www.absoluteprelude.com for the jdm headlights .. , the wiring for my fog lights were attached to the harness going to my signal lights. Everything is very straight forward and easy to do, and using the dremel tool to remove the sections of the bumper for the fogs to fit was effortless. The fogs plugged right in, hurray! The covers fit on great too.

Now my questions:
http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/...x_16810_28.gif

From this wiring diagram, if I put my dash lights in place of the Hi/Low-Red/Yel wire .. and use a common ground out of the switch .. will this be safe for detaching use of the fog lights from the headlights ? IE: will I blow fuses etc?

Also, that damn wiring harness for the switch .. where is it ?? Up under my dash is a HUGE mess of wires from the aftermarket alarm install ... its the worst install I've seen .. dumass who owned the car before me cheaped out .. grr!

Is there a way to take off the outer side of the dash that the door closes against on the driver side? That will give me all the room in the world to work on the car and fix up any wiring and make changes to harness' etc.

and give me advice on finding the other green harness for the switch .. wtf ? where is it!*#%!*#%

just pull off the tweeter cover, and there's a little spot where there's a void that goes down, you'll see some other wires coming out of it, dig around in there for a while, and you'll find the switch wiring that you're looking for.

cantdrive, can you be more specific? In my tweeter area driver side there are 2 wires covered in what feels like hockey tape, theres a very small opening that goes down into the dash but I can't even fit my fingers in there ... if I could pull the switch up from there I'd be super happy ..

Yup, it's down in that small opening. Mine was actually taped to the other wires that were coming out of the hole. Just gotta fish around in there til you find it. The plug is green.

Mine was taped down below the air duct, so I had to push it up through that hole.

This will be extremely useful, considering my NIB fog light kit is on it's way I wanted also to have full manual control of the fog lights, completely seperate of the headlights, and if possible, still be able to use the oem relay.

I did that to my Fogs, all you have to do is hook a constant 12v to the Red/Yel wire that goes into the relay. and ground the Orange Wire that connects to the switch.

I guess the only drawback to that will be that you can leave the fogs on even when the car is off. as an alternative you can hook the Blk/yel wire from the mirror controls instead of the constant. That wire is hot only when the keys are in the ignition

there's gotta be something else, my car came with cheapy fogs installed, but the owner did a nice job of installing them, he had a lit switch next to the hazard button, and wired it through a relay. The fogs turned off with the car, but could be activated either at ACC or on standby, I can't remember, but I do remember them going off with the car without me having to manually switch them off. I guess I shouldn't have yanked all the wires and the relay out so fast last summer without taking a peek at where he connected everything.

It's all about wiring diagrams in the helms.

I was considering turning them on with the dash lights so that when you turn the lights one forward (obviously at night or when there is little light for driving) and the dash lights up, then the fogs will be active if the switch is on. This would also mean that they will stay on when low/high beams are turned on also.

But upon further investigation, I dont want to eliminate the dimmer unit for the dash lights by giving it full feed through the fog switch/relay .. so I think I'll break the (Red?) wire that goes power into the dash light dimmer to the power (red/yel) of the relay and connect to the orange wire coming out of the switch.

In the meantime I'll do the paper clip trick .. I at least would like to see my fog lights turn on but damn, gotta find that green connector!*#%

by dash do you mean the gauge cluster, because keep in mind 94+ have contstantly-lip gauges. As for the HVAC controls, I can't remember if the dimmer controls them or not, but if you say so, I believe you

By dash, I mean that when you flip the multi light switch one forward, the marking lights, tail lights, clock/stereo dim, back lights to dash come on, climate control all lights up etc.

I was thinking about it more, and using the red wire and using a separate ground is the best way, and that won't affect the dimmer. im really not looking forward to messing with the wires under the dash .. oiy.

Keep looking in the area behind the tweeter cover. When I looked for mine, I had to move a thick bundle of wires out of the way to get to the green connector. Use some muscle and move things out of the way in there. You'll see it hiding back there, the bastard.

Ok sweet, I found the plug .. ready for this ??
I'm out there right after work .. starts raining, I'm cliping wire ties and stuff so I have room to find it ... and waaay over close to the fuse box, attached to a big fat wire furthest to driver side, I see some WHITE tape holding the green harness .. skinny like but longer than I though .. so I push it up and loose it .. fight with it s'more, get a coat hanger, hook the bish and pull it up to the tweeter area ... WOOHOO! ..

I jump it with a paper clip, fire the lights on and ...
THIS IS THE RESULT!!#*%#!*%

and now I must vent ... I'm working on the car, and it starts snowing and stuff, it was dry to the bone outside when I started minus melting snow etc. so I'm farting around and stuff, background info I got a really crappy pair of fogs, the one had rusted so bad the screws needed to be drilled out to mount in a new bracket for the fog .. I bought a new light for that one because the filament was broken .. the other looked great .. that one is rusted in solid the only way to change lights is taking off the bumper again .. the manual says unscrew the fog from the bracket but that is not an option .. man im pissed
