Fog switch backlight

Just received my JDM fog light set and wanted to hook up the switch to see if the backlight works and it doesn't. I switched the mini-bulb a few times, to no avail.
I don't have the relay yet and my question is:

Is the relay required to power up the wires that connect into the switch?

the switch is for 94-96 models.

no,

You just need a power source and ground. Are you sure you have the correct wires?

i took my switch apart and it's set up to work with three wires. i can tell by the routing of the circuit board in it. The weird thing is, the harness that it came with has 5 wires, but two of them go nowhere. So i'm guessing it's a USDM Switch with a JDM harness??

The three wires from my car match exactly the three 'active' pins but the colors throw me off: Red/grn, red/yel, orn?

Also now i know it's the switch and not the bulb cuz i swapped it with the one in the hazard switch and the bulb works in it.

I'm so lost

The JDM switch and USDM switch have different connectors. I have a USDM setup because my fogs came with my car from the factory. If I had to change out to the JDM switch that I have, I would either have to adapt the USDM wiring harness or run the JDM fog light harness that I have.

....but are both JDM and USDM connectors 6-pin? the one my switch came with was blue, and the one in my car is white.
both fit right in though. but as i said before two of the wires from the JDM connector go nowhere in the switch.

from what I understand is that the JDM switch DOES NOT work with the USDM harness that comes in the car.

I have the JDM switch wired into my car, but yeah, it was a real pain in the ass to rig up. Zimmlude was kind enough to help me through it.

If it's the same switch that I have (one that fits perfectly in the 92-93 center console; http://members.cox.net/fgarcia38/swi...ctor_relay.jpg), then it has 5 pins (http://members.cox.net/fgarcia38/switch.jpg): two for power, two for ground, and one to go to the relay under your dash.

My switch is the 94-96 kind. i just found a diagram and it seems the back indicator light only lights up when the fogs are actually on, cuz the red/grn wire powers both the fogs and the backlight in the switch. but i can't go any further until i get a relay.
Thanks for the input.
