fog light paper clip switch.

I really don't see the danger behind using a paper clip to run my fog lights whenever my headlights come on and I know users here have done it safely for years, but is there any danger of fire or ruining anything by using the paper clip?

I've been using one for the past 2 weeks now, it stays in place 24/7.

wait... why are you using a paperclip to run your foglights? I can't imagine there being no way to safely run your fogs.

Because 94+ USDM switches are really hard to find, last one I saw sold for 180 on ebay.

I also didn' want to cut my stock harness for the switch and wire it to a cheap autozone switch, so if you tap the two wires with a paper clip, they turn on with your headlights. It's been done before here.

The only problem with that is the fear of the paper clip causing a short. It has a high chance of touching something else metal. A cheap solution is to cut the paper clip shorter and bend it so that it just jumps the connection and insulate it with some electrical tape so it can't touch anything. Or you could get a piece of wire thats already insulated and jump the connection as well.

I know I saw a write-up somewhere that modifies another switch(I think it was the hazard light switch) to run the fog lights. Do a search for it on google. I can't remember which site it was on. Might have been HT.

Thanks! Yeah, I was going to insulate but wanted to make sure it'd still be safe to "jump" it 24/7. I'm going to insulate it with electrical tape right now.

I remember seeing that, it was the hazard switch, but I'd rather keep everything as OEM as possible until I can get my hands on a USDM switch in the future. Also, I need my hazard switch, never know when you'll need it.

+1 on insulating it. I bent mine over the side of the plug and wrapped it up with electrical tape. Its been like that for more than 5 years now

Oh wow, didn't think about doing that, but I might actually do that instead.
So you bent the excess part to the side of the harness and just wrapped the whole harness with electrical tape?

EDIT: done.

Folded it over like you did, and put lots of electrical tape on it, then put it back inside the console and put the switch cover back on.

Lights on

the alternative version is to take a Honda fog light switch (I used a 01-05 civic 4d fog light switch), splice the wires from the original connector to the switch, and put it one of the 4 slots thats close to the armrest as shown in the right corner of the picture:

here's my switch. Iits a 93 center console but the switch should fit the 94-96 center console.

there's more pictures of the fog switch out and other stuff on the thread I made a few years ago.

How much did you pay for that fog switch?

TruNinja619 did you just cut the stock harness, extend it with electrical wire? Does that particular switch snap right on to the stock harness? Or did you do away with the harness and somehow wire that switch to the stock wires?

The fog light switch that i used was for the daytime running lights mod for the H1 bulbs, so:

1: I used a fog light wiring kit they sell at pepboys for about $20, and the original switch that came w/ the wiring kit had 3 wires: 1 for power, 1 for ground and 1 for the switch wire on the relay. So I splice each wire that I cut from the original switch, and hooked on to the respective cavity on the civic switch.

2: I can vouch 100% that the switch I used just snaped right in w/ no modifications required. Now on the 94-96 center consoles, I am 99.9% sure that the same switch I used will fit in to one of 4 empty spots on the console. It looks pretty much the same size, but if someone can confirm it, that would be great info there.

I purchased a set of fog lights a few days ago and I plan on doing the same switch mod instead of sourcing one of the 92-93 fog light switch w/ the tweeter (unless i can find a good price one)

The switches are the same size for both consoles I had the JDM half switch in my 93 and I did the conversion to 94-96 and it fits perfectly. Thats a REALLY good alt. to paying $100 for a freakin OEM switch lol

It is. I find it hard to believe someone would pay buttloads of money for a stupid switch. No matter how rare it is, a switch is a switch.

I'd PM you, but did you get that switch from Honda or ebay? I imagine it's still being produced and easy to find, just don't see Honda asking only 20 bucks for it, think even when our switches were produced they were like 50 through Honda. Blah. It's just a switch, think 20 would be my max...

Would this one work? ( the sedan DX or LX)
HondaPartsPeople.com - Genuine Honda Parts and Honda Accessories

$19.20 + 9 shipping, not bad, 30 for the switch.

ok so if i go to pep boys and ask for which year harness i can have the fog light harness? i have a 93, i bought a set of yellow fogs, CF bezels, switch and relay on ebay for like $200 but took apart the center console only to find that the wiring isnt there for the switch and i have a good feeling it isnt there for the lights themselves either behind the bumper. got any info? cause all the writeups out there show 94-96 ludes where 92-93 may not have the wiring. if that harness is only $20 id rather buy that than try to remake the cut harness that came with the lights.

ninja youd be my hero if you could let me know what model/year civic fog light harness you bought from pepboys, im dyin to get these things up and running.
