Fluctuating idle. Weird...please help.

here's the deal. When my car is cold or fully warmed up, the car revs from 900rpm to 1800. back and forth kinda thing. Anyways, this all happened after I swapped in a Auto JDM h22a into my manual 92 lude. I'm currently using a Auto ECU. Could the ECU be the culprit?? I checked all the hoses and everything is plugged in. I bled the coolant and topped it off. Cleaned the TB. Reset the ECU. Same problem. Ok, here's the really weird thing! Well when I put my axles in during the swap, I didn't shove the passenger side in so it kept popping out when I drove. Drove me nuts cause I thought I had a faulty tranny. Anyways, when the axle popped out, my fluctuating idle would stop!! Totally weird. It would sit at 1300rpm but it wouldn't fluctuate. How can this be?? I would shove the axle in and the bouncy idle would come back. Can anybody help me?? PLEASE!!!!

I think if its not the ecu you still need to get a manual one. You're losing a desent amount of power to that I'd bet.

Auto ECU + manual car=

Idle problems

Dude, my 95 Si does the same thing. It's almost like a heartbeat.
up down up down, but after my car warms up a bit, it goes away. I haven't
done any swaps. it is the stock H23, auto. 78000 on it. I thought it was the
timing belt, but i had it checked and it was fine. It might be a bad oxygen
sensor, or cold idle sensor. I'm stumped too........

Good luck

Its the idle air control circuit.

I had a ***** of a time getting mine to idle smoothly after the swap. Its because the JDM engines have different emissions equipment.
I hooked up the IAC a couple of different ways and it got better, not fixed.
wiat til the car is warm and get a screwdriver and lower your idle until it stops, drive a mile and lower it agin until it stops... keep doing this until it stops for good.
Right not my car idles at about 500 rpms, its lower then factory(750-850) but atleast it doesnt bounce anymore.

I tried to lower my idle with by messing with the idle screw. I turned it all the way till it wouldn't screw in anymore. It still idles from 900rpm to about 1300rpm. It's better then going from 900-2000rpm. Anyways, I drove around for a lil while and my car is a gas guzzler!! It wastes A LOT of gas. well anymore suggestions?

let me guess...you all have the coolant bypass mod done? if so...MAKE SURE you blocked off the piece that is below the throttle body, if you forgot that step, you will have this problem. i had this problem after i cleaned out by throttle body....and it majically went away after a while.....wierd

Yea that is from a vaccume leak. if you cannot get rid of it by adjusting the idle skrew then its a vaccume leak. Definately
I spent a lot of time getting rid of that crazy idle.

I'm almost stock except for a cai and I remember trying the vacum
trick for the flapper mod and another mod on the TB but I put back to stock and I am going through the same problems now that it is cooler!
Just got back from SF today and last night it was doing it really bad when it was just idleing
I think that it is probaly some vacumn or sensor problem!

By the way I need to replace my oxygen sensor and damn are they expensive does anyone know of a discount or cheap place to get them??

I had this same problem in the last few months with my Lude and it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. My mechanic also told me that it could have been the ignition module which is located in the distributor.

Hope this helps somehow.

i'm having this problem as well and i don't have any clue what the coolant bypass mod is, or any of the other abreviations in here. I have a 93 h23a with port/polished heads and bored out a lil. I've had the bouncing idle come and go for a long time and i would love to finally solve this weird phenominon. Any help would be great.

It's probably the fast idle thermal valve. Do the throttle body test. Take off your intake and put your finger over the bottom hole inside the TB. When you have suction on it and the idle goes back to normal, it's your fitv.

Ok i think i understand what your talking about... i need to take off the intake and crank the car first right... then put my finger over the bottom hole in the TB? And if there is suction.... what then?
