fluctuating idle

hey, i did a search but couldn't find a definite answer.

when i start my car, my idle is fine. when i start driving then my idle starts jumping from 1k-2k, and this happens until my car fully warms up.

i've noticed that when i let the clutch out just enough to catch it, the idle settles to a steady speed, is that really bad for my clutch?

also i've heard that it might be my O2 sensor, how would i be able to tell? and i have reset my ecu, messed with my iac valve.

please help, its very annoying...

thanks in advance.

you know what my car just sarted doing the same thing then i figured it was the coolent bypass mod un did it and waa laa it stopped but its probly a vaccum leak it will do that when theres one you can try inspecting at all the lines and the mainifold but what you also can do is start the car get a propane bottle and let the gas leak out direct and move it around the mainifold when the rpms jump you found a leak anyone else have any ideas?

You disconnect the collant lines that flow through the trottle body. It is there to warm up the trottle body when it is cool but the downside is it warms up your intake air once the throttle body has warmed up.

and the reason why it idles up and down is beacuse there is a valve inside there that when the coolent warms up it closes it the reason why it is open is to suck more air in which is why when the motor is cold it idles higher then when it warms up it closes and the idle drops if the ecu sees that the motor is warm (coolent temp. sensor) and the valve is still open it sees it as a vaccum leak and then the idles moves up and down

Uhmmm does anybody else think this is an extremely bad idea?

I would love to let propane leak all around my engine bay when the car is running... Its not like there's any source of combustion anywhere in there *cough* spark plugs *cough*

I had this same problem in the last few months with my Lude and it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. My mechanic also told me that it could have been the ignition module which is located in the distributor.

Hope this helps somehow.

It doesn't help. This thread is 6 years old. The original poster doesn't even have the car anymore.
