Fixing air conditioner

My a/c has been broken about 1 year 1/2. I have refilled it with freeon and for some reason it keeps leaking it. These people at Midas wanted to charge me $1,000 dollars to fix it, but I know they're trying to rip me off. They said something about a bad consensor, or compressor. Another mechanic I know said its just a matter of replacing a couple of broken gaskets. Why is it leaking freeon?

I paid $1400 to get a brand new air conditioner system...somehow everything messed up.
I could have used that money to swap to manual, or to get rims, or to get a body kit w/ paint, damn!

I just had mine done, $650 for replacement of the evaporator and a control cable that was sticking. I saved $250 by going with a used part, luckily the dealer let me bring it in. Take it to the dealer and have them quote you. If it's outrageous than take it to other shops until you feel comfortable with the cause.

you can get a condedensor for 150 aftermarket (radiator looking thing for u guys that might not know). R134a goes for 14.50 a pound at our shop. my lude takes 2.25 lbs. dryers are $25 aftermarket, thats all i have replaced on mine. Lake Shore Radiators in Charleston, South Carolina is where i got it. im sure labor is alot for installing but if u dont have any refrigerent in your car you can do it yourself and just have the AC primed by the techs. hope this helps alil. u can get aftermarket compressors too. my AC has never been colder. put a temp guage on it. sittin in the parkin lot 97 degress outside without heat index it hit 59 inside the car (in the vent on low) thats pretty good. on average most cars will not cool more than 30degrees below what the ambient temp is outside.

Hey can someone please advise. Have a 2001 Prelude base, trying to recharge a/c but not sure what the psi is suppose to be at. It's not blowing cool air but it's showing the PSI at 125. Can anyone help? Text 469-426-4311 or email abush714@clear.net

Thanks,

Anthony
