Your blower motor is getting dry. You will soon find that it will not always work. Keep a hammer/screwdriver close by so you can tap it when it does not want to run. What I did to mine, I pulled the motor out, took it apart (be careful it has springs on the inside) and greased the hell out of it with some lithium (sp?) grease.
That's pretty kool. I shifted from 5th to 3rd also while passing these two slow cars the other day, but I had no such luck. My blower motor is still dead and I'm still freezing when I go to work. But the drive was defintily fun. I think I'm gonna just order a used one soon though.
