FITV question about reassembly

Going to pull my FITV off my H23 as I have the terrible idle surge problem and already did a new MAP, TPS, IAC, and intake gasket.

I'm reading this tutorial: *** How-To*** Clean Your FITV - Team Integra

Since my car does not idle at all right now I have no idea how far to screw the large white piece in. He said he left his where it was originally as his car idled.

I really don't want to just guess a position and have to pull the thing off again!

I had this problem too!

I replaced many parts but the solution (for me) was to unscrew the white plunger lookin thing in the FITV almost until the very top of the FITV. If the white wax plunger comes out (it will pop out if you screw it too loose because there is a spring under it) screw it back in. Screw it in about 1 to 2 full revolutions from the top. Then replace the two top screws then reinstall.

Try driving it til its warm...then stop and leave the car on and pop the hood and listen! u may have to also adjust the idle of the car from the pulley on the throttle body.

Hopes this helps! This was my solution but it may or may not work.

OK but doesn't the white part in there control the idle speed? That link I posted said if the car idles too high or low you'll have to adjust it in and out... meaning I have to remove the damn thing every time till the idle is right??

Kinda....u gotta play with it n listen.
jus try it from the top...then reinstall and listen. If it still is fluctuating srew it in some more (no more than a quarter turn or quarter inch) then reinstall and listen.
When you mess with this you 'may' have to adjust your idle through the idle pulley on the throttle body.

One site said to tighten it all the way in, which I did as it was the only definite answer I could find!

Car runs fine and idles at 800rpm now. I still have a little intake manifold leak but I'll change out the gasket again and plane the intake while its off. Somehow the damn thing warped...
