First time at the track with the new lude...

Used to have an S, ran a best of 15.9..
Now have an Si, just got back from the track for the first time: Regular tires, full interior, subs/amp etc etc (wanted to see what I run in street trim).

First run 15.6@88
2) 15.4@88
3) 15.4@89
4) 15.4@88

Very consistant.. ok I guess. Just thought I'd share. Oh, I have intake and exhaust.

Here's a full timeslip:

R/T: .620
60': 2.315
330': 6.468
1/8: 9.928
@: 71.31
1000': 12.920
1/4: 15.457
@: 88.38

I do pretty well through the first 1/8th, then I think the compression loss of my #1 cylinder (bent valve, 130 compression) takes toll on my top end + the fact that it's the stock clutch at 110,000miles slows me down a lot too.

ok I took my 94 vtec to the track here in KC. it was around 88 out and humid. My best time was 15.42@89. That seems really slow for a vtec lude. My tires were at 23psi or so, intake filter out, full interior and spare. What is wrong here?

is your Si stock? I just dont understand why my car and you're car are running the same times and I have a vtec and you have an Si. My car is 100% stock. someone explain this to me.

Thanks man.. I must say I do have a LOT of track experiance (over 50 passes easy in my last lude), I guess that helps a little

Preluda- hey man, consistant is consistant any way you put it!

CrazieLude- first off, don't deflate your tires, it's bad for them, and it doesn't help you get traction. Only slicks are made to be deflated, not street radials. There's a lot of things that could change why you ran that time. Maybe it's just a matter of practice.. the more times you go down the track, the better you'll get. I listed my mods, I have intake and exhaust... plus a few things against me, so overall I give it a 'stock' rating..(being optimistic).

My best with my old H23 was 15.09@92mph. That was i/h/e/ignition/pulleys. Your times seem very good for the mods and condition of the motor though.

I know how you feel with that old clutch. When I did that time I had about 135k on the car. It didnt really chirp gears anymore, it just slipped and slowly the motor came down to the rpm for the next gear, lol. It held alright though I guess, but definately could have dropped some time with a new one....as I'm sure you would.

Now the question, are you going to keep dumping money into the H23 to break into 14s, or are you going to swap and try for 13s?

Nah I'm not dumping any money into it... I'm only using parts I already have for it that fit my last motor, and will fit the H22 I'm building. I'll probably stick my other clutch in this one just to see what it can run though, but I don't want to bother fixing the bent valve if this isn't the motor I'll be keeping.

Brady, I shift at 6500

Padge, thanks!

I'm assuming this was at california speedway? My best run there so far was a 15.4, but that was in the middle of the day, in the heat. I'm going to try to make it out to the drag night on the 23rd, see how much I can improve my times.

Ryan yeah this is at Fontana. I think I'm gonna put my clutch in and go back, so I'll let you know, probably not this weekend coming up but then weekend after if you wanna join me It'll be a fun race.

Bill, I'm not. Heh. I'm doing the Hybrid since I have both complete motors, it will be easy to get everything I need (certain parts from both motors needed to run best). I figure it like this... this way when someone checks my engine they'll see H23A1, see it's the stock motor, I'll get less crap about it from tech/smog/dmv..

Oh, thats even better than H22. If you need help with it, let me know. You know about my disatisfaction with the H23. If your hybrid works great, I might go that route.

Re: First time at the track with the new lude...

Just for comparison:

You / Me

R/T: .620 / .645
60': 2.315 / 2.391
330': 6.468 / 6.546
1/8: 9.928 / 9.978
@: 71.31 / 72.03
1000': 12.920 / 12.953
1/4: 15.457 / 15.471
@: 88.38 / 89.75

Very similar, though it seems mine has a tiny bit more top end. What wheels were you running on Rich? The Accord ones in your sig? I can't wait to run mine at night at Fontana.

This is my 15.42 pass out at KCIR (kansas city). It was 88deg. out with high humidity.

R/T: .970
60: 2.348
330: 6.527
1/8: 9.965
MPH: 71.65
1000: 12.912
1/4: 15/420
MPH: 89.74

Stock 94 vtec

I'm going to head back as soon as it cools off (maybe Friday) to see if I can pull anything more out of her. I should be at a LOW 15...not this 15.4 crap. grrr. any suggestions?

Not fair, you have a header

Yeah I'm running on the EX rims 5.5 inches of gripping power!!!!

Crazylude, your launching could use a bit of practice.. though it's harder to launch really well with a vtec because of the vtec itself, but ideally you want to launch and grip while in vtec, meaning rev that b*tch up real high, and feather it till ya grip in vtec. Then just practice at shifting quickly and precisely.
