first impressions after my jdm h22a swap.

well i got my car back on friday. i got the jdm h22a swapped into my h23. i got the timing belt water pump balancer belt etc. changed while i was there. i also got a new exedy organic clutch and a clutchmasters 8lb lightened flywheel. i kept the old h23 tranny for cost reasons. i also kept my h23 exhaust its kinda flukey. what happens is the downpipe from the h23 bolts dont fit the h22 manifold. so i chopped off the side bolts with a die grinder and made them smooth. then i attached the 2 by the 1 bolt in the center. i have 2 small clamps on the side. it runs fine and works and i recommend it to anyone short on cash for their swap. understand too that my engine bay fills with exhaust at intersections and its not the best thing but its running till i buy headers and get to drill/adapt my h23 cat bolt pattern to the header downpipe. but on to my impressions. wow. im telling ya. this is amazing. this motor pulls nicely. yes people are right it doesnt have quite the low end torque of the h23. correct. 1400-2000 doesnt really move the car at all and it gets driveable around 2500. it doesnt get its power till later but it really does pull. i feel it pulls a HELL of a lot better than the h23. big difference and im very happy. although i havent made any runs yet i have to break in my clutch just from street driving taking it easy i get knocked around. i cant wait till 1000 miles. he he he he. its gonna be fun. i also just got my jdm h22a ecu for 172 shipped on ebay. on top of that i have in the mail a r-spec vtec controller. this one has a top speed defencer in it so buh bye limiter. it will be nice to be able to adjust vtec. then when i need to go on a long drive i can make it higher so i dont piss gas. i definitely love my jdm and i cant wait to see her after some headers!

you people who say the h22 doesnt have any low end have something wrong with it. ive had both h22 and h23 and think they're just the same accelerating from a stoplight.

I think your butt dyno is off
Ive driven stock vtecs and until it gets to 3-4k it
feels like a civic compared to my car.

the h22's peak torque is 2ftlbs higher at 1k higher rpm. i think that sums up the fact that its power band is higher up thus less low end power.

i also agree. id have loved greddy header. but it doesnt rain $ with me. 250 shipped for the dc sports was waaaaaay too tempting to pass up. besides it will be just nice to have headers period vs what im running now. i cant afford greddy and i cant afford to wait.

After driving my girl's 5th gen, I'd have to agree with you on this one.

Mine is running now also. The SWAP is MAD. The Vtec combined with the mugen ECU makes my car freaking fast. I cannot even expain how much faster it is. Im ready to go to LACR and race it. I know i will hit in the 14's. I was running low 16's on my SOHC. And this is amazingly faster.
