finally got a exhaust, very disapointed.

Okay I've been looking for a good quiet deep exhaust for a while now, well I went to a shop that I usually do business with and asked them what would they recommend for my particular set up, but I do not want a loud buzzy exhaust.

He said" oh I recommend a tanabe universal with custom 2.5. I again asked him, is this a loud exhaust he said no. So being a trusting idiot, because i have spent hundreds of dollars at this place, figuring they are not gonna steer me wrong, I go get this done.

When I turned on my car my head about exploded, this muffler is the total opposite of what I wanted, it has that really high pitched, buzzy, spitty on deceleration sound, it is so embarrassing to drive around with this thing, I don't even want to drive my car anymore, until I get this thing off, I took it back to the shop that suggested this crap can, and said WTF, you said this was deep, and quiet, and all that, anyway it was a waste of time, because they are not going to give me my money back since it was a universal muffler. I guess I'm just screwed. Man I'm so bummed I really tried to do investigating on this subject and I just ended up fvcked anyway. Anyway the guy at the muffler shop said if I add a resonator, it will quiet it down alot, is this true or not?? What does a resonator do? I'm not familiar with exhaust. I mean I like the look of the N1, and have heard it, and people say that's loud, and that's the only reason I didn't get it, this thing is a hell of alot louder than the N1.
thanks matt

yeah if you have no resonator that will really affect the noise. The tanabe is likely straight through...so it doesn't do much in terms of help.

A resonator looks like this, it's usually right after the cat

in this case it's the 2 raised chambers after the cat. GReddy uses two resonation chambers to get the GReddy sound.

But be honest with yourself, a 2.5" exhaust is going to be loud no matter what you do.

i have a universal N1, AEM CAI, and ebay header....

Its nice and deep below 3k, gets a little raspy around 3-5k and after 5k it just screams, and you can barely hear the intake over the exhaust. I am pleased with it. Its a little more raspy than i liked, but i like it now that i have it. Oh yeah, and i do not have a resonator. its deeper, yet louder (no resonator, duh ) than my friend's n1

that's exactly what I asked for, and he said that it would take forever to get, and that the tanabe was just as quiet.

Also, I didn't know that bigger piping meant louder, I thought that was all muffler.

So getting a resonator will quiet it down some? Will it quiet it alot?

That is a Greddy Power Evolution.

I recommend a Greddy Resonator if you can get one.

The resonator is basicly a pipe winthin a pipe that quiets the exhaust. I have "played" with having one one and off. No resonator and just a "weak" muffler will cause a headache after a while. And the straight pipe , no res or muf, forget about it, get yourself fitted for a hear aid.

For the street, you need both but for racing anything goes, especially excess weight. Striaght all the way.

You shouldnt have gotten that exhaust in the first place...did you not know that it was goin to be really loud? Sure the shop told you it wouldnt, but they're the ones selling it, of course they'll tell you whatever you want to hear.

Sounds like a really nice flowing exhaust, you might want to see if you can sell it to someone here that is looking for a nice exhaust like that.

LIke I said earlier, I've spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars at this shop, if you can't trust a shop after you build a professional relationship with them, who the hell can you trust! They know I'm a good customer and I'm gonna spend my money there, why would they intentionally wrong me? I think they just made a mistake, that cost me alot of money, they should of know better and recommended something else for me.

I'm just saying that you should have known it was going to be loud, no matter what the shop says.

Personally, I'd try to sell the thing if you don't like the sound, and pickup a WS or RS*R. It seems frequently agreed upon that these two are about the quietest aftermarket exhausts out there. My RS*R is on a truck right now, headed for my house. Sometime next week I should be switching it for my Thermal Stealth and I can give a more personal opinion of it at that time.

you are just not reading what I'm writing or understanding or something, but it doesn't even matter. I am going to put a resonator on tomorrow and if that doesn't quiet it down to a tolerable level it will be for sale.

get the RS*R ex mag. I've never been happier. It's deep low and not abnoxious.. the piping looks ****ing hot too. No problems with cops and dyno proven gains.
