few more Timing belt questions;)

I was at the parts store and they said that its smart to change the tensioners because the are basically bearings and can seize and the valves go bye-bye.

Is this true?

then, is there any other tool i can make or something in place of the honda crank holder... I seen someone said they put the tranny in 5th gear and held the brake. From the way it seems this bolt is harder than that to get off.

also

for the manual tensioner, how do you know when there is enough tension? do you push it down on the belt until it wont move anymore

thanks

In the helms there is a procedure for tensioning the belt. When I did it the belt still seemed like it deflected too much between the cam gears. After I ran the car and checked it again it was fine. Putting the car in gear didn't help me get off the crank pulley. I rigged contraption to hold it. Pretty much I modified a c clamp to attach to the pulley and attached a chain to the clamp. Put the chain around the power steering bracket. For the bolt, I just put a pipe on the breaker bar for more leverage.

if you follow the procedure in the helms...the manual tensioner will tension itself correctly by the spring that is attached to it. This is providing the spring isn't worn out or stretched.

You guys are talking about two different things. Yes the spring pulls on the tensioner to provide proper tension to the belt, but irishpilot is talking about the actual timing belt adjusters. Personally I would change them just to be on the safe side; after all, they have been on the car for so many thousands of miles.
