Feels Brand New

Just had a nice list of things taken care of on the ol' Prelude. She's 15 years old now and has logged 183k. But you'd never know it... Dropped off at 8am yesterday morning and picked up at 5pm, and here's a little list of what was done.
  • Timing Belt and Tensioners
  • Valve Adjustment
  • Balance Shaft Belt
  • Alternator, PS, and A/C Belts
  • New Clutch Master Cylinder
  • Waterpump
  • Rotors/Pads (Front & Rear)
  • Oil/Filter Change
  • All New Fluids (of course)

I'm lovin' it.

I gotta get a new clutch master cylinder. Mine looses pressure from time to time. Did you notice a big difference with the valve adjustment? Mine are kinda clacky, but I'm not sure what the deal is.

Well the H23 has a notoriously clacky valvetrain, but compared to the clackyness it was exhibiting before, it purrs like a kitten.

Inspecting and adjusting the valves is a fairly easy process to do yourself if you have the tools. If you have a mechanic do it then it is typically an additional hour of labor, which varies from mechanic to mechanic. My valve adjustment was included in the labor cost of the timing belt replacement.

Can't beat it for $25.

I can hook you up with a valve adjustment for dirty cheap if you are interested. Hell, I'll even come to your house.

is the clutch master cylinder just like the stock one or does it make the clutch pedal travel shorter?

^^ It FEELS exactly like stock. You CAN adjust the engagement point a little bit on it. But it won't make the travel shorter, unless you add a bigger clutch stop and adjust your engagement point to be higher.

EDIT: But our clutch is already short...

Sounds good to me. I've got a set of uber rare USDM headlights I could trade for servies.

My clutch pedal looses almost all the pressure if I shift over 6500rpm or if I downshift at a high speed, like 3rd-2nd at 40mph. Then I have to pump the pedal at least 10 times before it's back at normal pressure. Is that the cylinder going out or something else? It's just started happening in the cold.

^^ Rare USDM?? Pics? Never heard of these before...

As for your clutch problem... it sounds like you have a hole in your rubber clutch line on top of your transmission. When you hold the clutch pedal down for an extended time, and then let off, does it lose a bit of pressure, and you have to pump it to get it back...? And are you losing fluid? I would replace the rubber clutch line and the master and slave cylinder all around the same time. All of mine went within a 6-8 month or 3k miles range.

lol, I was joking about the headlights.

I have a stainless steel clutch line. If I hold the clutch pedal down, or just drive it normally shifting below 6500rpm, everything is fine. I haven't lost a drop of clutch fluid.

^^ Weird! I don't see how the clutch hydraulic system is dependent on the engine speed. It wouldn't hurt to try and replace the master and slave cylinder. They're relatively cheap.

What's even weirder is that it still shifts fine. I lose all pressure except maybe 1-1.5inches at the very bottom. My clutch is original with 190k miles, but I don't think that would have much to do with my problem. I'll replace btoh cylinders and go from there.
